Pic #2 and #4 remind me of overlay...Veg. growth...

Maybe you didn't initiate pinning well? You're temps. are in the 80s, that might have contributed to them not turning into knots...

Just my .o2...

When did you stick it in the FC...How did the casing look then?

Explain your procedures and i'll be able to give you a better anwser

Pic #3....looks like there's primordia forming...
That 1st one looks like it wants to pin but it might overlay...looks like it's myc. trying to form into primordia...

I do 2-3 fannings a day! When I first started the casing the, i let it colonized for about a day, that's all it really need cuz it already had myc poping up, so I patched and threw it into the fruiting chamber. I am going to try to drop my temp some more, like around 75, I gotta work on it, the light kind of heats it a little.

A temp. drop would really help those casings stop w/ the veg. growth...

If your casing layer get too colonized then it won't provide moisture or protection anymore and it'll just be a non-nutricious layer of substrate (overlay lol)...You might have to scrath if you can't get it to initiate pinning

Good luck

-Gnostic

Your light sorce can be as small as a nightlight, they're phototropic, amount of light doesn't really matter, (talking about lumens)...A foaf uses those circular little night lights that you can push in...it gives out a low amount of light, and it works great IMO...

Light luminosity doesn't matter, but if you've got some blue spectrum light , that'll help initiate pinning, but i'm sure that you wouldn't have one jus lying around heh

it's a very blue light, it's a plant light... I'm gunna try to read up on "scrath". Any links?

Pic 2 and 4, should I patch the casing? yes no?

Scratch..Sorry, its late lol

http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23449 <--Overlay link

http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23456 <--Scratching

That second link

Disregard this parts, they're incorrect..IMO

Quote:

Pins for your first and second flush are produced during the initial intiation. If you deep scratch after harvesting the first flush, you kill all the pins for the second flush. This deep scratching at this point does two things, it prolongs the time between the first and second flush, and more importantly, it will spread any contamination that might be presently contained.

I say that b/c a foaf scratches after first flush to recase, which will give extra moisture....(Very thin layer so that u dont have to incubate...)

But i'd have to double check...That 2nd link has a 3 out of 5 rating lol, so it's a bit incorrect, ill find something better

Here we go...

http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/7975
Explains the purpose of a casing and what you Don;t want, might want to skim through it a bit, but there are some helpful hints/tips in there

Why a good casing is important...not sure, but it looks like you should read it for tips lol
http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23689

Explains how to initiate pinning (you know this, but re-reading helps you remeber things you might have forgotten)
http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23454

Explains when to put it in....
http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23444

Read all that and then post back, if you have a Q after all that reading then i will be really damn surprized

Lots of reading.....:nonono: lol

looks like your humidity may be a little high, hence the fluffy growth of the
mycelium through the casing material but like Gnostic said, looks like there are
primordia forming

fill a couple of half gallon jugs with water and freeze them, place them on top of your fruiting chamber and that should bring you down to a more livable temp for fruiting

First off you need a plan (Getting the most out of your casings!, A pinning strategy.).
Then you need to know that your pinning triggers need to be implimented at the exact same time! to be the most effective. Patch those early breakthroughs mist it down real good and use your pinning triggers, which won't be as affective now no matter what. Forget scratching that would be such a waste of your time as there is no severe overlay at all (yet) the myc has grown out on the surface more than you want as far as optimum is concerned but it will still work. Use this as a learning experience and once your first flush is off sprinkle a very light layer of premoistened casing mix in any divots and mist it down to near saturation and wait. GL
