OK, so here's my idea. I'm tired of soda bottle bottle bongs, but I'm not ready to shell out $50 for a real one. I also want a vaporizer, but, again, I'm not ready to shell out $100 or so for one. Instead, I'm thinking about going to a site like this: http://www.labwarehouse.com/lw/category.cfm?category=42 and getting a beaker, an erlenmyer flask, a beaker stand, some rubber stoppers and hosing. I well set the beaker on the stand and put the weed in there. I will plug that with a stopper that has a hole for a carb and a hole with hosing coming out. The other end of the hosing will reach through the stopper in the erlenmyer flask and down toward the bottom. The stopper in the flask will have another hose coming out of that for the mouthpiece. The flask will be partially filled with water. I can heat the weed indirectly and cause it to vaporize, but it will still filter through the water like a bong. The whole setup won't cost more than $15, and it will be reasonably permanent/easy to make/easy to use.
What do you think? Fucking stupid idea, or a reasonably good idea?
Edit:
It will also be safer to get a package sent to my dorm from Lab Warehouse than Bongs R' Us or something like that.

I think filtering the vapor through water is pointless and may actually detract from the effect.
Do you understand the difference between vapor and smoke?

Yea, I was wondering if that would happen actually... vapor is just a substance (THC in this case) in it's gaseous state, while smoke is a mixture including solid particles(?). I tried that light bulb vap sort of thing, and I am still a little confused as to how it's supposed to work. When do you actually take a hit? Are you supposed to be able to see the smoke? I didn't feel like I was taking a hit until after I saw the smoke, but I don't know if it was working at other times too... Oh, what is the boiling point of THC anyway?
Does anyone know of any large chain stores that might have this sort of equipment? The only place I know of near my school is Walmart, and I couldn't find anything like this stuff there.

Also, would it be better if I just replaced the flask on the right with a plastic bag? Would it actually inflate?

yes when vaporizing you should see the smoke in your vaporizer THC's boiling point is somewhere from 150-170 degrees i belive and so you only need a small flame to get this smoke out of you heat tempered glass vaporizer

well i have friends in my chemistry class at school. they have made the "chem bong" by gettin a flask that closes at the top and only 2 holes, they use 1 for a slide, and the other is the mouthpeice. it works like a charm, it only cost about 20 bucks for the slide however. its kind of a wierd peice of lab equiptment, i dont know the exact name of this flasky type thing. jus knw that its enclosed with 2 holes that work perfectly.

I think I did pretty much exactly what your trying to do. Works wonderfully. We could even throw a blunt in the top tube where the bowl is (we have a glass bowl now instead of tin foil - that was just for that night). Its not a vaporizer like you want, but I don't see why yours won't work.

You should run cold water through the condensor to cool the smoke off even more.
And the down stem long enough for the end to be completely submerged in the bubble.

Heres Afoaf's bong:
Heres Afoaf's Hookah:
- Beaker
- Antenna
- Screen (You can take it out of a sink)
- Socket for a ratchet
First you cut two holes in the beaker , ones for the antenna and ones for the carb.
Second you cut the antenna , and then put it in the hole and seal it with cocking (silicone).for afoaf's he has cut 2 sizes out of an antenna for both the hookah and the bong. One is a bigger size that sticks in the beaker , and the other slides into that big antenna piece to create a spot where the bowl can sit on it.
Third , you make a bowl , You can make a tinfoil one when u first make the bong until u can make a good one , u can take a 5/16 ratchet socket and then shove the screen in it , and then super glue a small washer to the bottom of the socket for it to slide onto the antenna.

Where'd you guys get that equipment? The one with the condenser is pretty cool--do you actually use it? And is that graduated cylinder glass or plastic? If it's glass, how did you put a hole in it?

I didnt smoke in high school, and I don't have access to any of the chemistry equpiment here... Even if I did, I don't know if I'd want to smoke out of it... they put some crazy shit in those things.
