Question about Doc's Wild Bird Seed Tek
    #3971968 - 03/26/05 12:21 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

i was wondering about adding water. the tek never mentions adding water at any point, do you not have to add water because of the simmering step or does it just leave out the adding water part. and i was wondering about inoculation, do i inoculate the jars the same way as the pf tek? you know by putting the neddle down in and against the side of the jar? or just kinda squirt all over the top and just shake really good?

and do you have to put a layer of vermiculite of top of the birdseed like in the pf tek, or just leave only the birdseed in the jar?

No you don't have to add any water. The simmering does get the right amount of water in the seed. First time I tryed I had too much water. When you do your last drain, make sure you sir the WBS with a spoon a couple times to make sure you let the water trapped in the center drain. If you shake your stainer and water drips out, it's not drained completely. Then just inoculate, Through a center hole, doesn't have to run down the side of the jar, with anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 CC of a syringe, shake real well, to distrbute the solution, and put in incubator. Mine where showing signs of growth in three day's. Good LUck.
Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony.
