question about the hydra pod. Is it similar to an ebb&flow table? When the water rises how close to the cake does it get? the top geolite looks real moist with hydroponics geolite doesnt tend to pul moisture up that well only the roots and rockwool do this. Do you think you could turn an old ebb&flow into a hydrapod by filling it up with geolite and putting a dome on it and keeping the water level just below the geolite? Do you have to put peroxide in the water to prevent contaniments? If this is the case sounds like someone has a use for all those old ebb%flows sitting around and they also make domes for the ebb &flows with ventalion holes perfect for fans and hepa filters

To all you folks out there bitchin' about the price/value relationship-
If you got more time than money, build your own.
If you got more money than time, it looks like a good deal.
I guess it depends on how much value you place on your own time whether or not the pod is worth the price.
10 years ago, it would definitely have not been worth it to me. Now, with a business and family to tend after, not having to think through the mechanics of putting together my own system would be well worth it.
I havn't taken the McPod plunge yet, through, as I am paranoid about ordering such things through the mail.

Nushroom
Heh, I did say don't take offence!
I do understand the concept of blowing CO2 off shroom beds, it's not that hard even for a dimwit like me ;-).
I don't buy the need for air entrainment for a few PF cakes for the reasons I mentioned but I do buy the need for air exchange. BTW, when I said my friend uses a tank with pump setup I did actually mean my friend and not me! - hard to tell on the shroomery obviously with all the AFOAF shennanigans. I do cased rye in a simple tube and a cakes in a tub with perlite & no air exchange.
I don't wanna get into a row with anyone about this, I'm just saying that it isn't totally automated. It looks cool and I'm sure it will do the trick given a temp controlled room with some light. I also think you can get great results with perlite and a tub.

I can't hold it back any longer, I must say it: WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY. Air entrainment for cakes - what a crock of shit!
NuShroom - quite what the connection between you and McMan is I don't know but it SO obvious you are blowing smoke up his ass.

Why do you say "crock of shit"? Psilocyber seemed pretty impressed with the system.

I'm saying that if it works well then fine but the air entrainment angle is pure hype - i.e. a crock of shit.
Because CO2 air layering occurs on large commercial cased beds. The CO2 emanating from the growing myc/shrooms diffuses out of the casing and tends to sit on the beds - so it needs blowing off. Cakes are not large flat beds they are small protuberances. CO2 is not going to sit on a cake is it? As long as you have decent air exchange then CO2 levels are not going to be a problem.
I've no doubt it can do the job. But then so can something 1/5th of the price and that would include heat and light control - ie real automation.
I also take exception to NuShroom's weak attempts at sly advertising for his mate. All that "I spent 24 hours and $1000 and didn't get close" crap is such thinly veiled sock-puppet advertising it hurts. It just needs pointing out to newbies who might get duped into thinking they need it.

Maybe the CO2 sits on the geolite? Maybe his stating of "air entrainment" refers to the way air is cycles through the entire dome to remove that low level CO2? Does it really matter what he says? It's marketing, trust me if I ran his company I'd be releasing reports that "Mushrooms are good for developing fetuses." Anything that would sell Hydrapods.
I decided to give in and buy one. I'm very inexperienced so I figure I'll make a post which contains every step of my process. From the initial setup to the last flush I will detail my experience (and take pictures). I'll let you guys know when I post it so that you can see a truly unbiased view from every angle.

how the hell do you get the pins to form over the whole cake like that?! i have eq cakes sitting in a perlite humidified terrarium, with the temp @ about 74F. i only get a clump of pins on each cake (in the same spot).
