quick PC question

When im done PCing my jars do i have to just let the PC set at room temp and cool down to de-pressurize? Or can i use a spoon or something to lift up the pressure reg. and release the steam/pressure? This is for doing grain jars by the way, not the PF tek.

You only need a good 10-20 minutes to get the pressure cooker back at atmospheric pressure. It will still be extremely hot (so be careful) but you'll be able to remove the regulator/lid after that period. Don't rush the process, and don't go removing the regulator early--that's asking for burning.

I just wanted to make sure that manually releasing the steam/pressure didn't hurt the jars. Because i did this the last time i PC some WBS quart jars. Everything seems to be good w/ them so far though.

No it won't hurt the jars, but it's not a great habit to get into. Watched a friend doing this once upon a time, and the result was a vertical column of exploding lid + broken jars + 250 degree water + loud noise. Not worth the risk, just wait that 10 minutes.

You are probably using quarts. That should be fine then. When using half pints, I wouldn't recommend doing it. When you release the pressure, the water inside boils at a lower temp. Since the temp is still way above that, the water will rapidly boil. This can result in the water getting under foil and into half pint jars.

Like Diver said, wait the 10 min. I myself move the PC to a new burner, or a table, and let the pressure drop to under 10psi. Then I will use a fork to slightly tilt the rocker to let off a little more pressure. Will speed it up a little. Once it is near normal pressure you can pull up the rocker to let the pressure out. I sit the rocker back on top to keep contams out afterward. I usually give it about 10-15 min after this to open the lid and move the jars to a sterilized bin I use to cool them to room temp.

Advise you allow to cool to (at least) below boiling point temp of water (212F)- before removing weight. Around 150f is okay. But, even better to wait LONGER & allow it to COOL more.
