At the foot of the barbeque, they grew . . .
    #3967635 - 03/25/05 05:57 AM (11 years, 8 months ago)

I was comming back from a drive to the video store (got "Saved" it's an Ok movie really), and when i was walking up past my Barbeque my brain went into Myco mode and my Myco-eye started scanning the foot of the Barbeque, and sure enough, i saw these little guys poking up. they have come up before, but they were gone within a day so i thought i better be safe and get these quickly.

So i went inside and forgot completely about them till a few minuites ago. It was dark when these pictures were taken so i couldn't get great shots of the ground on which they grew, but it is basically just pretty dry soil with some thin grass scarcly covering it, and it's been unseasonally cold the last week or so.

The Gills are all Attatched as you can see in the photo, and the stems are hollow. There was no bruising within 10 or so minuites picking and cutting stem. These are growing in Sydney Australia. I am not expecting an Active obviously, but would like to know abit more about the Fungi that grow on my property.

Where They were growing:

Top of Cap:

Underside, Gills:

Thanks - Liam.

Those are Inky Caps (Coprinus sp.)

Attempting to ID them to species would be a wholly academic endeavor. They are not active and should not be eaten because some species of coprinus can cause illness if consumed within a few days of drinking alcohol.

Yup cool, i wasn't expecting an active, but just knowing what grows in my yard is quite a nice feeling. There are 4 different species so far, and i have seen two others, though have not collected specimens to ID.

EDIT: thanks for the link, i'll check it out tomorow, it's 3am here currently.
