Console Humidifier. Will this work?
    #3967117 - 03/24/05 10:55 PM (19 years, 9 days ago)

Hey Guy's, what's up? Was just cruising the local Wally World, imagine that, and came across this gadget. Was thinking of getting it for my Martha. What do you all think?

Pretty expensive and I have no clue what a "console" humidifier is.

I'd stick with a coolmist for air exchange and a ultrasonic for rh control.
You'd come out cheaper this way, also.

Just my 2 cents

Not really worried about money that much. Just looking for what will work best. Like this unit because you can program a humidity setting and it atomatically maintains that level.

Looks cool.

But, I doubt it is (sinking feeling).

For one thing. There is no description of how it functions. I did a google & still didnt find out.

It would appear (by its size) to be a wick type. Meaning, it wicks moisture up through some kind of absorbent pad & a fan blows through the pad, to provide humidity. Which (IMHO) isnt good. Pad can get & harbour contams. Which  :mad2:blow :mad2: into a Martha .

If that unit is a wick type, IMHO ...

If it is an ultrasonic type, IMHO.......

Simple, cheap & easy is a plain oldVICKS COOLMIST for $20, plus a few dollars in modifications, to alter & pipe it into a Martha (easy to do).

Trouble with a Martha, is bottom is open. So, high RH is a bit tough to maintain. Plus water condences on walls & drips out the bottom (think about a big ass - drain pan -or- something - to catch moisture - under a Martha).

Best way I have seen to RH up a Martha, is run a Coolmist 24/7 & a MOO1  FOGGER with a K001 float in a water container - on a timer.

Trouble with that fogger is, It kicks out so much moisture, you only need to run it (ABOUT) 2 minutes, every 20 or 30 minutes. To do so requires a pretty good & often costly timer.

Hey Agar, thanks for the input. I've been looking for a Vick's cool mist. Been to every thrift shop, Target doesn't sell them, only warm mist, Wal-Mart doesn't have them, that's what I was looking for when I saw this. Already have a short rubbermaid my martha sits in to use as a drip pan, and three ultra sonic foggers. This unit has a anti-bacterial something or other, but the reason I liked it was for the programability. Set it at the humidity you want and let it go. They also have another unit, which is ultra sonic and has a U.V. light to produce a mist that is 99.999% clean. No bacteria, spores or mold. Only thing is it blows warm air, didn't think that was what was wanted. Thanks again for the advice.

Are you sure walmart doesn't have them?
Check the Pharmacy section.
I saw them there in my local walmarts
