Anonymous proxy list for Firefox SwitchProxy extension
    #3966596 - 03/24/05 08:55 PM (19 years, 1 month ago)

I wrote a script which parses the Xroxy anonymous proxy list and returns them in a format you can import into the SwitchProxy Firefox extension. If you want to use it, the URL is http://www.shroomery.org/ythan/proxylist.php

Hope someone finds this useful!

Peace,

-Y

Awesome Ythan!
Ive been messing with Proxyrama and Charon to do the same thing but it's always nice to get a list of good ones.
Thanks.

Just out of curiosity, why are you only grabbing the "High Anonymity" instead of the "anonymous" proxies?

Also, I wanted to add that when using proxies it's still a good idea to filter all connections with something like ProtoWall. I used ProtoWall yesterday, while surfing through the proxy list, and it cut off several proxie connections as being possibly dangerous. One was "the state of Georgia board of Regents".

I suggest disabling auto-update on SwitchProxy as it has been said to slow FireFox down considerably.

Options > Preferences > uncheck "Notify me of updates"

Um...my firefox, 1.0.2 doesn't have a "preferences" link within "options". It's under "advanced" in the "options" area.

Mobius_Strip: My first instructions were for changing preferences for SwitchProxy using the SwitchProxy tool bar--sorry that wasn't made clear. To change preferences using the FireFox top menu bar, try Tools > SwitchProxy > Preferences, and again uncheck "Notify me of updates."

I too would like to know what makes these 'high anonymity'...I've never trusted proxies of any sort because someone on the proxy end can view everything you do.

The /proxylist.php link keeps going to a blank page over the last few weeks. Before that it was working great.

Are you dropping it, or going to continue this wonderful resource?

If you have to drop it, thanks for trying in the first place, Ythan.

Let's pretend I know very little about extensions and Firefox and proxies.

Wait...no, let's ASSUME, in fact, KNOW WITH CONVICTION, that I am a fucking clueless whore.

Is there a tutorial anywhere that will help me follow Ythan's instructions in his original post?

I have downloaded the proxy extension for firefox.  And I have Proxyway installed.

But I'm a giant dumbass as to what to do next.

Help me, shroomery cpu nerds!  You're my only hope!

I'm confused, how do I use it? I have installed SwitchProxy, do I just plug the URL into the URL field of the SwitchProxy anonymous proxy settings, or what? I tried that and it said that the URL did not contain valid addresses.

Edit: I didn't realize this was an aged post.

I think the URLs listed in the script need to be updated as they point to the wrong pages now, can someone update it. BTW if your using it now you aren't protected and you probably don't realise it. I could be speaking complete bullshit however.

Yeah, I think the proxy pages have changed their layout since the script was written so it will no longer function.  The author could fix this pretty quick I think.  I just don't know enough about what is going on.  I suppose I will just have to do it the hard way  :smirk:

I down loaded this script and chucked it on a another web server and found that this line was causing the script to fail:

eaccelerator_cache_page($_SERVER['PHP_SELF'], 21600);

Once I took this out it started working even though one of the URLs was wrong.

Even though this thread is sticky I get the feeling that no one really cares about it.

Anyway thats my 2cents.

For all of you wanting to find anon and high anon proxies...try Charon. Charon is a freeware program designed to search for proxies. This script is pretty simple compared to what Charon does. IMHO, keeping it simple is often best and I can appreciate simple and easy but Charon does it better. There are other freeware proxy finders out there too.

It's simple.

If you aren't sure what a proxy server is then google or Wiki it first. Then:

1.Download/install the SwitchProxy extension for FireFox (Google it) You must have the firefox browser to use this - FREE.

2.Download the Charon proxy Finder program, or any other proxy finder program or script (Google it) - FREE

3.Run Charon, or the proxy finding script (find secure proxies)

4.When you find a good secure proxy(ies), preferably in another country, you copy the IP and port address and paste it into the switch proxy list (from step 1).

5.Tell the SwitchProxy extension to use your new proxy list from the dropdown box.

BAM! now you have a more secure way of browsing the internet anonymously.

Repeat the above process as needed. A useable proxy one day may not be a useable proxy the next. Can be unreliable and slow.

Alternately, you can subscribe to a secure proxy service, like proxyway, megaproxy, etc... and pay out of pocket for more reliable and encrypted surfing.

No, unfortunately switchproxy does not work with firefox 1.5. Although there is another proxy swith extension that DOES work with firefox 1.5, it's called xyzproxy. Do a search for it on the Firefox extensions site. You have to "Customize" the Firefox toolbar and add it where you want it in order to use it, otherwise you won't know it's there.

I'm guessing that I don't know what I'm doing......but, when I set up this swichproxy with the shroomery list or any other and after hitting "Apply" I check my ip at http://www.whatsmyip.org/ and it shows my correct IP, not a proxy. What am I doing wrong?

Most of the proxies on this list are dead and need updated.

WARNING!

I urge for you to put what I am going to say either as a sticky or to edit your post and put it on the bottom.

DO NOT USE ONLINE PROXY LISTS! Again: Do not use any proxy you obtain publicly online! A lot of them are honeypots setup by the feds! Shadowcrew was taken down because the heads there were tricked into using a 'fast anonymous proxy' provided by an undercover FBI informant on the forum.

The chance of getting caught isn't that high with online proxy lists simply because the traffic is so large and feds focus more on child porno cases, but whatever you do on these online proxies IS being recoded somewhere, so PLAY IT SAFE AND DONT USE THEM!

The best way to mask your IP is as follows:
* Use something trusted like Tor or JAP. These offer TRUE 100% anonymity but they might be slow.

* While it may be unethical, you have the option of using an open wifi access point. Drive around and find one.

* Pay for a private fast VPN connection. This is really secure depending on which vendor you get (make sure they are trusted and reputable, VERY IMPORTANT!), but it's not free and I myself wouldn't trust any big company with my information, especially when it comes to my privacy and future.

Anonymous proxies are not safe!

I was surfing Google in regards to the SwitchProxy Tool and stopped by this topic. While the script seems to be decent, it leaves much to be desired in terms of quantity. For a good list of text proxy lists to use with the SwitchProxy Tool, go to this site below:
http://www.textproxylists.com

While it's not a very informative site, it works wonders with the SwitchProxy Tool for Firefox.

Ive been using TOR recently.
A great tunneling app that establishes a connection through numerous other Anonymous IPs which makes it hard to trace.
But when i try to post a message on the forum it says:
"Sorry, for site security you cannot post from an anonymized connection."

Doesnt this kind of contradict this thread ?

You can't post in the community forums using a proxy due to the puppet problem. We have to maintain some sort of accountability since it seems like some people have nothing better to do than create new accounts all day. However, you can still register an account and post in non-community forums from an anonymous connection, so you could use TOR with a grow puppet to post in the cultivation forums for instance. This seemed like the best compromise.

Damn, I'm amazed there's still interest in this even three years later! It's probably because this thread is the first result for "switchproxy list" on Google. I'd hate to disappoint all the hopeful visitors, so I rewrote the script. It now uses xroxy.com to build the list. Enjoy!

What is this about proxy? I'm highly intelligent and capable of all things, however I have been incarcerated for 8 years and technology does not wait for anyone.

You haven’t missed much. Welcome back.
A proxy hides your internet providers address. Meaning when your online it appears your in another  location.
