i use: format c:\

i keep all the programs i use and all my important info on a separate h/d (like my thunderbird anf firefox application data files). after i reformat, i usually install:
winamp, firefox, thunderbird, freepops, 7-zip, avg antivirus, adaware, open office, alcohol 120%, gaim, mIRC, free ram xp pro, apache, php, mysql.

and i probably install it in that order. also, i defrag twice a week depending on my servers activity.

most of the time the people don't want to lose information, but I'm going to start backing up then formatting, it's so much easier.

it's a lot easier to format once and install an OS (and not a fuckin oem windows with 10,000 crap programs) and keep it clean. organize your shit exactly how you want it and keep it that way. defrag and delete unused stuff manually since it's so easy to find. i also keep my stuff on an external, manily because i use it for work (me and a friend do computer repair for old people and stupid people who won't learn how to work a computer) and it's handy to have all my programs wherever i go. having your computer organized is a must otherwise you just waste resources and have to do more work to clean it than if you just maintained it from the beginning. i never have any problems with my computers and i keep them on 24/7 for the last 8 months. using mozilla and a good virus scanner helps too.

I'm aware of all this. But when people come to me and ask me to clean up there computer, I don't exactly just want to format everything. That is why I was asking for a list of utilities you guys might use. Your toolkit if you will.

Mostly I just wanted to hear if there are some programs out there that I could be using that I didn't know about...
