Scholtz Soil Conditioner Works

This works. I have tested it. You can grow mushrooms with this instead of vermiculite.

I don't know if it's better or worse, but it works. I didn't notice much difference between this and vermiculite. Give it a shot.

It is great to have a vermiculite alternative for all the people that cant find it. Is this stuff cheap? Did you use the same water ratio as normal PF tek?

Yes. I used the same water ratio. Although, my mycelium was very stringy, it could have been related to something else that I did wrong. Not enough info to tell, yet.

I can't recommend coco fiber highly enough. I only just discovered it here at the shroomery and it has blown me away. The myc runs through it over night and is really forgiving of sloppy technique. I holds a hell of a lot of water and is very fibrous and airy - this seems to give it a much wider margin of effective moisture level than verm.

Props to whoever suggested this stuff!

What is coco fiber and do you use it in place of the verm in cakes or just used in casing?
Where would you buy it?
Thanks for the post and I look forward to your response.

Beans, beans the magical fruit...

I assume it is the fibre from coconut husks.

You can get it by the brand name "Gro Brick" from garden centres and on the web from garden and hydroponic sites. It's well cheap and one little brick expands to lot.

You use it for casing. I don't know about using it in cakes but I suppose it might work.

From my limited experience, you don't even need to sterilise it. Just mix with bottled water and use.
