Are you pressure cooking your WBS? What kind of filter lid are you using? Also, are you inoculating w/ an alcohol swab to the needle each time?

i rinse my wbs and remove anything that floats, i soak my wbs for about an24 hours, rinse then fill into jars and pressure cook for an hour. jars are fitted with 2 layers of tyvek the lid ring over. i use glove box and i swab with alcohol from jar to jar. then stored in a tub n tub with temps from 80-90 feh

i was so pissed this morning to see cobweb i threw my quart jar and broke on the wall.... i did same thing with 2 half pint jars and the are fine... no cobweb or anything... same grain same batch same syringe.

I've personally never seen cobweb in any of my WBS jars, are you positive it was cobweb?

I'd say your not pressure cooking long enough to get to the center of the quarts then, wouldnt you? Why not try increasing PC time instead of throwing jars against the wall?

thin and whispy? could just be weak mycelium. i've seen people ruin casings because they thought weak mycelium was cobweb...
