If you wanted to convert a room into a sterile lab, how would you do it?
    #3953971 - 03/22/05 02:02 PM (19 years, 30 days ago)

It would make my life so much easier if I had one room devoted to all of my inoculations, extractions, everything. I?m seriously thinking about doing this in the future and I was just looking for some feedback in case I ever decide to do something like this.

Well, to start things off?

What objects would be a necessity?

A Sink
Air Filter (over the air vents, I guess)
Flow Hood
Humidity/Temp Monitor (whatever you call em)

What other supplies would I need?

Glassware (Petri Dishes, Beakers, Flasks, Etc.)
Various Instruments (I dunno, all those little gadgets)
Lab Coat (Hah, of course)
Safety Equipment

I would probably never be able to come up with the funds for anything serious, I?m not looking to create a fully stocked lab, just an environment I know will be as sterile as I can afford.

Thanks for reading,
ShroomNoob03

I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion.

I've done this...unfortunately it only worked for me for a couple of months because I made the lab on carpet and too much moisture built up under the lab and created tons of mildew. It has since dried out quite a bit and I still use it for prints and putting together casings.

If you do it try not to do it on a carpet, if you have carpet try to keep the inside as dry as possible.

Also, I mounted a 80mm PC fan for exhaust on one of the walls....with fresh air coming in, old air going out and a good HEPA blasting you shouldn't even need a flow hood. I recently made 7 casings in my lab in front of hepa, not 1 contam.

I'd cover the walls, ceiling and floor with Visqueen(plastic).

I'd make a clean room door with the Visqueen...a double door would even be better.

I'd use a Simco Aerostat XC Ionizer in the room...then wipe everything down on a regular basis.

I'd block the heating vents...or filter it with some kind of hepa filter.

Then use the flow hood for added protection.

And a nice glove box.

then all the other little extra's you mentioned.

The lab coat is a must...don't forget the tie!~

lolzz

take care!~

Are you refering to a book or something online?

Thanks,

I think he's refering to making a separate entry room on your lab.

I did this but I had to chop it off because I needed the space.

It definitely helps a lot, plus you can use it as a changing and self-sterilization room.

Just buy about 50ft of plastic, 2 rolls of duct tape, razor blade, staple gun and get buildin!

No, he was refering to a "nice chapter" in The Mushroom Cultivator. Is The Mushroom Cultivator a book or an online source.
