Peruvian Torch (seed)
    #3956906 - 03/23/05 12:13 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Hey there everyone, I recently aquired 4 viable Peruvian Torch (Trichocereus Peruvianus) seeds (contain mescaline). Anyways, I'm just wondering how one might go about growing a cactus such as this? Any tips on getting started and such would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance

Hey there, always willing to help a fellow canadian.

I also recently obtained some torch seeds, and they have grown into little sprouts now.

How I started was I placed the seeds into cool water that had been boiled with a little h2o2. I then alternated a light/dark warm/cold cycle for about a week. More info here.

From there I placed them into a pie plate with damp cactus mix soil and put the plate into a large freezer bag. Withing a day or two most of the seeds showed signs of growth.

This was confusing at first because the early stages of growth look like fluffy mould. This is in reality the water sucking roots coming from the seed.

These puff balls later grew into what looks like grass seedlings, but thicker. Unfortunately only half of my torch seedlings made it. If you are very careful I'm sure you could get all four going pretty easy.

well growing from seeds is a bitch if u want to use the cactus for more then just for the sake of growing. If u want to wait a few years go with seeds more along the lines of i hear 5 or 6 until u can actually get a decent cutting from. But I would recommend finding some cutting they grow a lot faster then from seeds. Seedlings are extremely slow growing.
