has anyone heard of a band called Godspeed You Black Emperor! they are experimental and to me they seem like the absolute perfect music to trip on (i am this weekend for the first time), and was just wondering if it would be good to listen to, or if it might scare me. thanks a lot.

IMO some moments might be ok or even beautiful for tripping, but their darker moments probably wouldn't be that great and might lead to some bad vibes or turn your trip for the worse if you're not that experienced. not that I've tripped to them but yeah..

also:

Mono > Tortoise > Explosions in the Sky > Larval > Labradford > Mogwai > GY!BE > Tarentel > Slint > A Silver Mt. Zion > stuff

godspeed is an awsome band and great to trip to. you should be fine with your first time tripping listening to them, i tripped with some of my friends and it was their first time and they enjoyed tripping with it. just remember if you get overwhelmed its all good you can always turn off the music and chill out. have fun.

Damn you Richocet, took all my other recommendations.

But yeah, Godspeed is amazing.  I'd rather listen to them really high though, than tripping.  I save tripping for the really good trippy music, like Shpongle and Ozric Tentacles.

Those are other acts that sound like GYBE. Labardford, Explosions in the Sky and A Silver Mount Zion are amazing.

He forgot to add Do Make Say Think, who are also incredible.

Cheers.

yeah, DMST are pretty great and inventive. I should have included them but forgot. the bands listed are mostly totally unique but share some similar qualities so yeah.

vagasilly, that list was just my subjective favoritism regarding those bands who sometimes fall under the "post-rock" category. I listed them in order of my preference although it's a tough call overall. I prefer Mogwai and GY!BE almost equally for different reasons even though I never was hugely into either band but can appreciate them. Larval and Labradford are on the same level even though they're very different aesthetically. Slint created the genre and were pioneers but are slightly overrated now although certainly not at the time. anyway, yeah, all those bands are worth checking out and I'll spare you any more rambling.

I also left off Sigur R?s as well even though they could have easily been thrown in there somewhere (towards the mid to end of the spectrum ).

i had the privilage to see these guys live in concert. absolutely amazing. they kept the stage dark the entire time so you couldnt see what they looked like. sonics produced that i never heard before in my life. they are more than worth the money!

Awesome band, I really enjoy their album titled "f#a#".
Is it true that they're from Vancouver? cause they have a song called "East Hastings".
