Casing contam! please help
    #3954145 - 03/22/05 04:52 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

I am trying out casing for the first time. My bin has about 20-30 total pins, a couple which are farily large and will mature in the next several days. Unfortunately, I just noticed I have damn green mold growing in a small section of the bin.

Should I scrape it out or what? Is the whole casing lost or can I still harvest the shrooms that are growing? What have your experiences been?

Dont harvest shrooms near contam area, you can try to cut it out but it hardly ever works, if you do remove it try not to stir it up take it out in one piece so mold doesnt spread GL

Pour...... table salt over the top of the mold, about a 1/4 inch high, then mist the salt a little bit. Doing so - will slow/halt some molds.

alright agar i'll give it a shot immediately. i've read your bulk substrate tests and am thoroughly impressed! hope it works long enough to get a decent harvest.

tried the salt tip on the infected area over 24 hrs ago and would just like to say that the mold has been wiped out! it seems like it has dried up and been killed. i'm sure it hasnt been completely eliminated but the shrooms in the casing are looking great (over 40 of them now!) and if/when the mold comes back it will be well after i reap a lovely harvest.

helluva tip there agar, thanks.

Or so it would seem to be wiped out!

You never know there could be a huge infectious pool of green mold inside.

thats definately a possiblity, but the shrooms sure look happy! point is, the salt certainly *at least* slowed the mold growth.
