Someone has had to have had this idea allready, but I was wondering if it would actually work.

I'm using a large rubbermaid as a terrarium with 1-1.5 inches of wet perlite in the bottom as a humidifier, and my casing tray sits on top of that. I was thinking about my set up today (no matter what I'm doing my mind drifts to my set up, never fear... I'm glad i'm not a surgeon or something.) and I wondered: what if i bought a type of grass from the nursery that gave off a hell of alot of oxygen, and I put little 1x1x1 (or something like that) containers full of sterilized soil in among the perlite?

It would seem to me that I would still have to fan, but not quite as often... In addition to that, wouldn't the kids like fresh oxygen? I mean, this oxygen coming from the grasses would be fresher oxygen than what I could fan in from my stinky apartment.

just a thought, tell me what y'all think

Not enough room in the container...

Its a 20 gal container. I would if i was doing bulk, i don't think I would want my roommates to catch on though if i had a bigger setup than what I have.

The temperature and humidity ranges for the mushrooms could mean disaster for any plant in the terrarium, even grasses. Odds are, they will rot. And as BP said, they don't give off that much oxygen, and they will use up available oxygen if not given enought light.
