You ever thought that maybe some are students, people that are part of a family? They go home, and their Parents have the flag....Jeesus, why are you pissed at them.
I'm Icelandic, my family owns one flag, and its here in my apartment, so that means the entire family is without a flag. Does that mean my family isn't patriotic, NO, its just a symbol.
Patriotism is in your heart, a flag doesn't make you care anymore than others...

I think you can be patriotic w/o a flag. I have one but many people show their patriotism in the voting booth where i show mine with my flag, which is up 365 days a year.......until my wife puts up that dorky halloween flag that her mom bought her...AAARRRGGGHHH...

This is not the majority of cases in the U.S.. Flag flying is a dying trend. That is why sales jumped. Of course there are exceptional neighborhoods that do fly flags on a daily basis. But before Tuesday, almost anywhere in the US very few flags were up. The parents don't have flags, that the college kids come home to. The only places you regularly see flags is in government buildings. You don't need a flag to show your patriotism, but it is traditional and I think it is a good way to show that you love your country at any time, not just when times are tough.

There is such a thing as too much patriotism, I think it can also be too much if everyone is waving flags all the time. I mean for special holidays and special occasions sure.
But to wave flags just because. Look at all the dictator regimes, they all had an extreme amount of patriotism and especially flag waving.... You don't want to get near that crazyness...
We are all afterall humans first, and to make a country such a priority above all else means you care about a thing more than you do your fellow man. Just something to think about.

Displaying a flag is showing too much patriotism? It has been a tradition in the U.S. for years. I'm not talking about eating off of disposible flag plates, and wearing a flag tie. I'm talking of putting up the symbol of your country. It is not much really. And in the U.S. it has been on such a decline that most people don?t know any traditional flag etiquette either. Most of the new flags bought and displayed this week that I saw were flown at normal height, even though the president has ordered flags at half staff in mourning.
Regarding dictator regimes: We have had many dictator regimes in history, and their are many reasons why these evils gained power. Some of the attributes a country needs for power are always the same, whether the country is good or evil. The U.S. is a very powerful country and it got there with patriotism. I think any ?good? country is one where the people love it.
We are all humans first, and maybe we need a world flag. But still I?ve visited several other countries that I would not like to live in and I will show that I love my country. I will bitch and moan about the government, talk of how our president should be impeached, and dwell on all the problems. But I will still fly that flag in front of my house everyday to show how grateful I am.

I agree, we dont really need everyone waveing a flag. It's safe to say that we all (well most of us) are Americans and were very sorowed and pissed about this attack. It reminds me of our local jocks when there favorite team wins a major game. For about two weeks all I see is the team's flag wavey from there cars.... us "non jocks" just cant grasp what they are doing.

You said a lot and some of it I agree with and some I don't. But I have too short an attention span to reply to much of it. So, from the general feeling I got from what you said, I think you should move from San Diego to a third world country, not up north. Send your computer to their government, personal belongings, and lend your infinite knowlege to helping others.
Don't take this as just an easy way out of responding to you, it is an easy way out, but I really think you should move too.

In germany it is very uncommon to have a flag, I don't like flags..maybe that is due to our history, but I think americans go to far with their patriotism now, of course I don't blame you for these acts of war and terrorism but I still think you Americans should be aware of the historical background of theese attacks and also the USA role in all that. you aren't that innocent..
That attack hasn't erased the mistakes that your government made and it hasn't made the politicans better persons or erased the mistakes made in the past..don't forget Osama Bin Laden is a child of the CIA..

I for one am quite sad about the racism going around america since the attacks, just because the people who supposedly did it were muslims doesnt mean all muslims are evil assholes. and why is it that no one is worried by the potential of another vietnam? when i really started thinking about it, Afghanistan has many battle hardened soldiers and some very fanatical people... they can kill alot of americans through guerilla warfare.

but, for different reasons altogether. America is a real military force because its rich as hell. Afghanistan has a history of being a country with vicious soldiers. America, on the other hand, has a history of green soldiers who have lots of really nice things that helps them win.
