do jars like constant light?
    #3952287 - 03/22/05 04:25 AM (11 years, 8 months ago)

12 & 12 or something different? what's weird is he [[thinks]] he's growing some mycelium, but only on the dark half and possibly the bottoms... the real kicker is the 12th jar: that one was a sloppy, unsterilzed, jar that he filled with 10cc's of Brita water after he emptied out the syringe. That one has exploded with white stuff, big time, almost instantly. don't know if it's mycelium but pics will be ready tomorrow. so anyway... what's a good light cycle?

several of the members went caving with me one day at a place near my house
in the cave we found a mushroom growing on a small pile of leaves, the cave
sees moderate traffic on the weekends and almost none through the week, to
give you an idea of how dark it stays, close your eyes tight and place your
hand over them, thats about what pitch black is and thats where the cave stays
most of the time.

now, the few cavers that go through that cave probably exposed that mushroom to
about 3 hours of light over the course of a week, thats assuming its a busy
week. so to sum it up, read the FAQ and do a few searches, they'll tell you
that there isnt anything set in stone, light helps with pinning and showing the
way to grow, I used the ambient room lighting in a storage room, it may have gotten about 5 hours of light per day frm the sun.

jars don't see light yet. the only thing light is really used for is directional purpose.
