honeywater tek

Ok I'm tryiing to get some mycillium started in two half pint jars with sterilized water and a teaspoon of all natural honey in each. I pressure cooked for 15-20 minutes, let cool and added 3cc's of spore solution to each. It's been 4 days and I really don't see any thick clouds developing. There are all of these very tiny puffs but I can't tell if they are white or not. Is this the mycillium starting to develop or my solution going bad? Shouldn't it only take like 2 days before there are noticable mycillium clouds?

Last time I did it, it took longer than 3 days. Give it a couple more and see what happens.

I've seen honeywater take over seven days to show signs of aggressive germination. Temperature is a huge factor. Spore will likely germinate in three days if the temperature is just right. A few degrees lower and you may have to wait for another day or two, and then a few degrees lower than that you could have to wait up to seven days to see signs of growth. Wait, and give the jars a wiff if nothing happens withing the next week.

Thanks guys... I was pretty sure to begin with that my temperature was to low. I live in the Carolinas and it has been warm up until a week ago so I haven't had to worry about manual heat increase. They have been sitting in the dark around 70 degrees average so I'm sure this must be the problem.

what temperatures are people having success with honeywater at? 70 sounds like it should be fine initially, at least its a good fruiting temp...

mrshrums-
what part of the carolinas? I am in the southernmost part myself, just in the northernmost part of where cubensis likes to grow outside.

When I used the honeywater tek, the jar was incubated in a separate plastic container floating on the water in a covered incubation chamber (heated by 25W submersible fishtank heater) at the same temp as the colonising jars will be later on - ie. about 80*C-84*C.
Just make sure you drill a few holes around the top of the small plastic container, just under the lip where you snap the lid on - this keeps the warm air from the incubation chamber circulating into the container with your jar, and keeps it humid too...
good luck...:)
p.s. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it needs to be higher as the myc is still in the growing stage, not at the fruiting temps yet...I think...!
(It also took about 1 week to produce quite a lot of mycelium.)

80-84 sounds reasonable and it sounds like you've had success at this temp. Can anyone else say what temps they've been successful using the honeywater tek at?

There you go KuruPira.
In my experience, HoneyTek rocks. Insane colonization times and lower chance for contams (becuase it germinates so fast.) Several notes though:
1) The first few days of growth, expect a darkish grey mycelium. Don't ask us why, maybe the myco is just getting used to solid substrate. Don't freak like I did, almost tossed all the jars out. A few days later it had magically turned white and was very rhizo.
2) You will probably see signs of growth 12 hours after innoc with myco water, so be prepared to see those suckers rock on.
Never had any fruits, as batch of cakes were burned (slowly over time) and dried out by a heating pad :( Let us know how it works out

I still don't know if there is a consistent story about what a colonzied honey/malt water looks like. When my friend did maltwater, he could never see anything in the water besides clumps of malt that had formed while pressure cooking. The stuff would colonize fine though, sometimes.
The stuff was cool, but unreliable. He's trying to make it more reliable.

after reading all these posts i think thew problem might be that you didnt use enough spore??? i used to buy my syringes off companies, and it took around 2 weeks to see signs of growth!!! then i traded a print and when i made the syringe with that, and i saw colonization in about 2 days!!!
it begins with an "m" and ends with an "ushroom"
get youre equipment from here!!!

Woow that honey water colonized great. Mine never comes out like that. Did you use alot of spores? how long has it been colonizing? The few tiny strans that i get wont even come out in pics most of the time.:(
