(updated) weird pining, greyish???? (pics)
    #3950510 - 03/21/05 06:34 PM (19 years, 30 days ago)

well this is horse poo/ straw cased in coco/verm. its been fruted for over a week. but weirdest thing, they pushed the caseing from the side and only fruted on the side. what gives. there one pin in the center of the bucket. i did 3 buckets this one the caseing layer was the wetest, it was the bottom of the bag of caseing material.

any advice on making it more even?

um...it looks to me like some pins are coming up towards the center, but it looks a tad overlayed in the middle, i dunno, i could be wrong. other than that looks like a nice grow. good luck, and may the little ones be your guide.

Your casing layer is over colonized I just had the same problem, did you patch during incubation of the casing? You have to fruit the casing as soon as you see the first signs of white poking through.

if the shrooms are comming up from the SIDE of the casing, like between the container and the casing, then that means the side of your casing was exposed to light somehow.... try wrapping the outside of your casing container with tin foil next time if you didnt this time.

yes lowerd temp, turned on air pump and light when i patched. out of the 3 buckets this is the only one with any pins. should i pick them so it focuses the energy to the actualy caseing surface or just let these mature and pluck em?

i'd give it another day or so and see if more pins/primadora on the casing layer. if not then unfortunately whats there is probably all you'll be getting for that flush, and i'd keep those mushrooms there.

if you notice an abundance of primadora/pinning you COULD take the risk and pick those premature mushrooms on the side to focus the energy on the "new" primadora, but keep in mind they might not even mature into shrooms. at that point its really up to you and how daring you are.

the first pic looks a little overlayed, but it looks like theres gonna be some pinning on the surface of that one.

the second one looks more overlayed, i'd recommend patching. you want the mycellium to be JUST under the casing layer, reaching up through with growth that looks like rhyzomorphic growth, which is where the pins will form.

here, check out this tek/page on casings. i think its relaly helpful.

Also I asked almost the same question it was cleared up it is not overlay because the mycelium is not matted, here is a pic of what mine looked liked I just recased it.

it looks like you'll be OKAY if you don't patch, but even if its close to pinning its okay to patch, at least in my experience with casings.

the most cautious thing to do when you dont know what to do is to just wait and see what happens.

Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.
