Casing question
    #3948539 - 03/21/05 01:25 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

All the teks i've read suggest that you put casings in a tray then put them in a fruiting container with perlite on the bottom. Is it possible to just case the cases in the fruiting chamber? i have 6 15 gallon rubbermaid tubs and i would like to case the bottom. will that work?

you know I'm sure people are going to comment on this but...
i dont use perlite i dont like it...it does keep in moisture but it is messy.. i just use paper towels on the bottom to keep in the moisture...it works for me...i do spray it towels with Lysol first and let them dry before i put it in the chamber...and spray it down with water before i put the cases in the chamber...but i use the pf tek witch is simple and getts the job done..

"Six words: drop out, turn on, then come back and tune it in -and then drop out again, and turn on, and tune it back in-it's a rhythm- most of us think God made this universe in nature-subject object-predicate sentences-turn on, tune in, drop out- period, end of paragraph. Turn the page- it's all a rhythm- it's all a beat. You turn on, you find it inside, and then you have to come back (since you can't stay high all the time) and you have to build a better model. But don't get caught - don't get hooked - don't get attracted by the thing you're building, cause... you gotta drop out again. It's a cycle. Turn on, tune in, drop out. Keep it going, keep it going- the nervous system works that way. gotta keep it flowing- keep it flowing.

I would say you could probably make a casing with that size container. What would you do with it to maintain the proper condition for pinning and fruiting? Put it in a Martha type chamber? One of the problems with a casing that big, especially if you are new to casing's, is that if something does go wrong, you suffer a great loss, lot of substrate. Most casing's I have seen on here tend to be a little smaller. You might want to try making your casing's out of aluminum baking pans and turning your rubbermaids into fruiting chambers and placing your smaller casing's in those. Good Luck

what i do is make a big ass mycobag out of oven bags, drop in a cake when cool, and case the whole bag in a rubbermaid container with 3 layers of trashbags on the inside so it doesn't pin on the sides(my rubbermaid bins are 66Qt. and clear).Same tek as the straw log but you break the log up and case it. Check out the Straw Ball Tek i hope this answers you question.

Helpful link. If you look at how big the rubbermaids he's whating to use, they are about 2 1/2times larger then those, that's getting pretty big. If you do it, keep us updated. I've been thinking of trying something like this myself down the line. Big cased rubbermaid with airlines, sealed up. Kinda of like a self contained bio-sphere. Good Luck.
