Time Change?
    #3947131 - 03/21/05 02:34 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

I was wondering on good dosages of shrooms if time can seem to be longer then it usually is? I know when I smoke weed time definitely seems to be longer.

Well I've found that when you enter hyperspace completely (5+ grams) the concept of time completely changes. I seem to enter a space that feels like eternity, meaning "time" goes infinitely in both directions (past and future), so I lose all linear concept of time. Normally when I'm sober it feels like I'm moving through time you know, like I'm going from A to B to C but on high dose tryptamine sessions I can't get to point B from point A because point A is infinitely in the past. Wow, I don't know if that makes any sense. It's hard to put into words. I tried

Time has no real meaning on a 3g trip for me. I'm still able to think clear, I can have 'normal' conversations and discussions about not so normal things  and I can think logic. But when I look at the time I really can't make much sense of the numbers I see; I see the numbers on the clock, but I can't 'visualize' time. Time becomes just a number. Hard to explain. When I come down it always feels like    time went very fast, but while tripping time doesn't have speed.

Time is a weird thing. What the fuck is time? Good things to think about while tripping.

I had a 5g trip the other day and it seemed like I lived a lifetime in the 4 or 5 hours that I was tripping. I get the feeling that it is because my mind moves and thinks so fast while tripping, that it feels like much more time has passed. My mind does not move nearly as fast sober so I think that has something to do with it.

My perception of time certainly gets "different" on me

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.

There are people with the savant syndrome who can tell the exact time without seeing a clock. I would like to know what would happen if they trip.

yes, time always slows down when i'm tripping. if the dose is big enough time sometimes seems to stop or just lose meaning entirely.

look at the clock , note the time, then look at it again later, once you figure out what numbers are there, try to figure out what time it was before and how much time has passed and what that means , laugh, and forget about time  :mushroom2:

If you munch enough, you can feel like you are stuck in an eternity, and if you're not in a good set and setting for this, it can be a very overwhelming experience.

Mushrooms can make time seem to go slower AND faster. What feels like 1 hour may actually be 2 hours. If time goes slow, what feels like 3 hours could actually have been just 1 hour.

Well, ancient Mayan cultures ritualistically used psychedelics in order to be able to "travel both backwards and forwards in time, in effort to communicate with the gods".

Anyways, time is a joke when Im on hallucinogens (provided my mind is in the right place). Like Ginseng said, if you let the fear consume you at the beginning of a strong trip then you're liable to feel and think "man, im going to be like this for hours! ahhhhh!"

Everybody says that they experience eternity or a lifetime during a 6-8 hour trip. Usually my 6 hour trips feel like a little longer than that, but not eternity. I only had that kind of experience once, on acid. I went everywhere from the actual nightclub where I was, to the past, to the future, to being Al Pacino acting out belligerent scenes from Donnie Brasco (thus getting me kicked out of a 1950's style Denny's diner). Now THAT trip seemed to last years, literally. I purely believed that I was physically at all these places where my mind took me.

"There are people with the savant syndrome who can tell the exact time without seeing a clock. I would like to know what would happen if they trip"

One of the scientific studies I've done on LSD is to gauge time perception. This was just a small part of the overall experiment. I had pens, paper, timers, all kinds of crap. One of the experiments was to ask my friends how much time went by and compare their answers to reality.

Astonishingly, I had one friend, Rob, who could without exception call the time, TO THE MINUTE - even hours after we stopped testing. At any given time, we'd ask him "What time is it now, Rob?" And we'd be smiling expecting him to be way off because it had felt like hours went by but only 20 minutes had past. Sure enough, the bastard called out the correct time EVERY time.

And I'm VERY competent when it comes to security-type issues, trust me, he had no watch, no means of seeing mine.

Those kind of people - the ones that DO NOT loose the concept of time - are the ones that trip me out.

The rest of us that loose perception of time...we're normal.

it gets weird, but it DEFINITELY seems to take much longer for me. it's not unusual for me to play a song, and then later i realize this song is still playing and i just think "how could this song possibly still be going?" and even though it feels like it could have been well over an hour it still turns out to only have been a few minutes.
