I love Yes. I was listening to them while tripping earlier and I was weeping like an infant, an INFANT in total surrender and adoration.
I really love them, and I've dedicated my entire afternoon to learning more about them.
Just had to share.

Be sure to listen to Jon Anderson's solo stuff and his collaborations with Vangelis.

Sweet. What's your favorite Yes album? For me, it's a toss up between The Yes Album and Close to the Edge. But I also really like Fragile. I haven't really gotten into later Yes.

Perhaps I'll check Yes out... It's been on my list for a while.

Fragile and Close to the Edge are definitely their masterworks. I prefer some moments in Tales from Topographic Oceans but think the former 2 albums are stronger overall.
regarding later Yes (post-Relayer): don't bother. they never captured the calculated sound of their early progressive days. it's totally different stylistically and mostly just doesn't work or hold the listener's attention.
by the way, if you have a 5.1 setup (not necessary but is great) and can play DVD-Audio (basically any DVD player, but my DVD player was made specifically for DVD-A/SACD), definitely get the Fragile DVD-A. the 5.1 engineering is absolutely mind-blowing and brings out so much of the music that was previously buried in the mix, especially on my original vinyl. the warmth of vinyl is there but sounds much crisper. one reviewer on Amazon was right on about this version of the album. if you're even remotely interested in this band or have been curious about high fidelity (SACD/DVD-A) audio, get this release now.

The only thing I like from Yes is "Mood for a day" by Steve Howe. It is a flaminco/classical acoustic guitar piece. I can play most of it. It is an awesome song.

yeah... mood for a day was the first song I learned to play on the guitar. when I first learned it I used my thumb in my left hand for the lower part. I have since corrected it. When I was in sixth or seventh grade that tableture for Mood for a Day by Yes and 'Dust in the Wind' by Kansas. At the time I thought I was bad ass I could play them both exactly... but in reality that was all I could play

I saw Yes and Kansas share a bill at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center a few years ago... what a coincidence.

Yes are great. once me and some friends were at this place listening to Yes, and my friends were on acid, and I was pretty drunk, and we'd keep throwing our fists into the air saying "YES!" because that was totally how the music was.
