How Long Are PC'd Jars Good For???

How long can i leave pc'd jars before i inoculate them. I just pc'd 4 quart jars, but my spores haven't came yet. I hoping they will be ok to wait at least 5-7 days without being inoculated.

Store them in a clean box or area besides the fridge. The fridge is a home for many nasties and wouldnt you see some contam grow in a few days before you innoc!?

So why not allow the contams to grow before you waste spores or whatever on it. Some people allow jars to sit for a week or so just to see if a contam sets in.
A friend has used WBS jars over a month and a half old with no probs.

pc with metal lids to create a vacuume. your jars are good forever. to break the seal get some rubbing alcohol a hammer and a finishing nail. a pair of needle nose pliers comes in handy for holding the nail. soak the swab in alcohol and centre that on your lid. hold the nail with the pliers and hit it thru the lid using the swab to filter the air being sucked in. remove the nail and swab. inoculate with lc. shake and cover with foil.

I always let my rye quarts sit for 5-7 days before I innoc. I just throw em in my closet until they're gonna be used. Never once a contam...

It is WISE to innoc jars ASAP, after they are colled to room temp. The longer they set, the wider the contam opportunity gets. If for any reason, i have to wait more than a few days. I simply resoak 7 re/PC. Better to be safe, than sorry - later.

Simply open jars, dump seed/grain content in bucket, big pot or whatever, add water, soak 8 - 12 hours, or overnight, rinse - drain - jar up & re/PC.

Throw 'em in the fridge, they'll keep longer that way. The temperature will slow down the replication of bacterium and molds. When you're ready to use the jars take 'em out and give 'em a good spray with an aerosol disinfectant, Lysol or whatever, and wait ten minutes. It don't matter if you have molded spaghetti covering the walls of your fridge as long as you have the holes in the jars covered properly you shouldn't have any problems.

I disagree about the fridge thing. Like you just said, if you have the holes covered properly, nothings gonna get in. The fridge will just slow down whatevers in there, but if its gonna be 5 days before contams show up, theres no point in slowing it down in the fridge. See if it contams or not. All of my jars sit for 5-14 days before use. Never a problem, and I get a contamed jar (besides from a contamed culture sourse) out of every 50+ jars I do.

How does that work? I mean if the jar is sterile inside wouldn't it remain sterile? If a jar is let to sit with a tyvek filter and a coffee filter covering the top couldn't it remain uncontaminated virtually indefinitely?

Virgins......... don't stay "virgins" forever. Sooner or later, something will get to it. Best to innoc ASAP & get colonization going, which fights off - other crap.
