Birthing Method??? Has anyone seen or used this before??
    #3943546 - 03/20/05 09:59 AM (19 years, 13 days ago)

Hey, has anyone ever used this birthing method..?
http://www.earthstongue.com/site/388422/page/63251
It looks like it would make sence to provide the cake with added moisture as needed but Im a little freaked out with dumping straight h202 into the verc to make it moist, normally i have only heard of a 3% mix or so when dealing with h202.
Let me know!
Thanks,
-Helge

looks like a good method...except the part about dumping the straight h2o2 onto the verm.

I don't like putting cakes on metal lids...either.
Makes them rust faster...rather use Alum foil under the cakes.

I like that drinking straw tek...seen people get some nice fruits over the years using it.

So should i try that and just use water with a 3% or so h202 mix?

Or is h202 even worth messing with?

Another thing, if i just set it on alum foil am i going to get a good flush before the cake starts to dry...? Im looking into cold shock method and think i shall give it a try on about half of my cakes. I plan on doing 8-10 cakes. Good idea? or bad? Remember this is my first grow.. Im trying to go for an advanced setup with little to no maintenance. I will have a Aprox 3 foot x 1 foot high rubber maid with the Tropic aire system. Depending on if i get this system to give me a RH of in the 90s i will have prelite on the bottom.

In practice you will find that the "dry" vermiculite isn't dry and loose. After all, we use verm because it absorbs water so well. It won't be any drier than the rest of the jar. Also, the mycelium will have partially colonized the verm layer, sometimes all the way through. Why try to recycle that little bit of verm? Just scrape it off with a clean fork and throw it away. Use some fresh stuff for your base and "dunk and roll".

The peroxide you get from the drug store will probably be at a 3% concentration. Most folks here go with 0.3%. Mix 9 parts of water with 1 part of store bought peroxide.
