Casing stalled?
    #3943066 - 03/20/05 09:42 AM (11 years, 11 months ago)

Hello

These 2 casings have been in the fruiting chamber for about 4 days, still no pins. R.H. is around 80%. What should the temperature be?

why is it in the fruiting chamber if it has stalled??? once your casing is properly colonized then put it in the fruiting chamber so it can pin and be cropped. the temp in the fruiting chamber should be 72 to 76F incubation for your casing should be the same as the substrate 82 to 86F
do you have two different casing types. one looks dryer than the other. what did you use and how did you prepare your casings?

Left is 50/50.

Right is Verm.

They colonized for awhile in an incubator. Then I placed them in the chamber, where they grew rapidly for awhile, then it seems to stop.

Does that mean it's about to pin?

its nice to see peopel try a side by side comparison. send ya five shrooms for that. with the detail in the pic its hard to tell how the mycelium is growing but things look good. i case and continue to incubate for 4 to five days cold shock for 12 hours and then fruit it. it can take awhile to see pins 6 to 10 days in my observations.

I didn't cold shock, I just placed from incubator into fruiting chamber.

Should I cold shock now? How do you that? I'm not familiar with cold shocking casings.

dont bother coldshocking now. cold shocking means dropping the temp quickly from incubation temp to below fruiting temp. i cold shock at 60 to 62F for 12 to 24 hours then bring it back up to 72 to 74F.
It's not neccassary some people do some dont. it's suppose to tell the mycelium HEY! IT'S TIME TO FRUIT! putting it directly into the fruiting chamber does the same thing. Cold shocking it is like slapping it in the face and really getting its attention.
hope this explanation helped.

So I should just wait?

I heard somewhere the mycelium stops growing right before it pins, is this what is happening?

Also, do these look dry? When I mist how much should I mist?

expect the 50 50 to colonize faster than the verm.

Leave it alone.

and yes the mycelium stops growing...and goes into the fruiting mode.

Keep the casing layer moist...but not too wet.

---

You need to have higher humidity til you get pins...btw

then after you get pins...you drop the humidity down.

honestly its pretty hard for me to tell from your picture bro.

wash your hands with some bacterial soap and touch it.

see if its moist to the touch.

I did that, and to my surprise, the 50/50 casing has 2 small pins on it's surface.  However, the casing layer felt kind of warm to the touch, what should I do about this?

Also, the verm casing has started extrememly rizomorphic growth, spikes coming up in a few places, I assume it too is about to pin.
