Pictures of my baby Peruvian Torches
    #3941901 - 03/19/05 09:42 PM (19 years, 1 month ago)

Like any proud first-time father, I must show off my pictures to everyone. These are Trichocereus Peruvianus, planted on March 2. They took maybe 4 or 5 days to sprout. These pics were taken tonite. They are inside a plastic top of an apple juice container. This was put inside a tiny terrarium that I picked up from the 70's. This is my first Trichocereus sowing, I plan a few more later this spring.
It's funny how I am so excited by this miniscule plantlet that won't be of considerable size for years. It's like I'm planning years ahead.

Lookin' good. I would not keep that glass dome over them once the seeds are done sprouting. If you could open it a tiny bit now that might be good. Make sure they don't get too much light while they are small. If they start to turn brown or red that's a sign of burning.

How many of the seeds germinated? I recently planted 16 seeds but only 8 of them made it.

adjust - I planted maybe 8-10 seeds (can't quite remember) and four sprouted in 4 or 5 days, then after another 4 or 5 days two more came up. This is why I still have the glass dome on, stonehenge, cuz I was hoping for a few more seeds to germinate. I open it everday for a bot of fresh air, and have it on the outskirts of my flourescent housepklant setup. In a week or two I'll take the top off completely, and give it a closer position to the lights.  Anyone know when I should first fertilize? Thanks for the comments everyone. :peace:

wow how old are those? I have some seedlings that are under 200 watt HPS for 24 hours a day, for like 2 weeks, and they are maybe the size of small pee. Same shape too.

That too much light post, is it true with hps lights, or just sun??

Try giving them a cooler night period, 24 hours is a bit excessive.. they need to rest and breathe!

20 of 22 of my Pedro's and Peruvian's have popped. I find keeping the soil moist until they get a lil' darker than that bright green shade makes them happy.
