WBS is considered a grain, as is rice, rye, corn, etc...
When one is referring to growing with "grain(s)" it usually means rye or WBS is being used...i believe... PF and BRF utilizes a ground brown rice and verm mix.

^^^^^^^^^BINGO
I prefer Rye Berries. I find them very easy to work with. Although ive seen people have problems with Rye, they tend to choose WBS instead. You need a pressure cooker to work with grains though.

And I am just guessing here (not having found the ACRONYM list yet), but WBS is....Wild Bird Seed? Or?
Thanks! ~K

Yup, wild bird seed...i guess the black sunflower seeds are picked out for the most part.
Where in town would I look for Rye Berries? I can order them off the net but it would be cool to help the local economy of this small ass rural town.

@ Lethal: You can buy rye at any health food store. It's just rye grain is all, that is normally ground to make flour. Same with rye berries (that's the grain kernel, if I am not mistaken). I don't really know where you live, but most health food/bio stores carry it. Otherwise? Google -> Mail Order. But shipping will be a pricey thing in a lot of places.

@ Enivid: Try *any* store that has a large selection of baking goods. A place from which you would buy stuff to make your own bread. It will be in that aisle, along with flour, millet, wheat, etc. In a big bag. Too bad you're not my neighbor, lol! I would just give you a sack. (I bake a lot, have a huge sack of it. )

Wow...now that's a lot of rye! You must do a lot of baking too...:D
WBS and rye pretty comparable or is one far superior than the other?

*Are you talking to me?*
If so, yes! And: Thai.
Not a sponsor though, bummer. But these guys I KNOW are reliable (between a friend and I who swap orders, we have 6 from there, all perfect!), and they ship to where I live, and they let me make a bank transfer (I don't need a CC for anything usually, so don't have one), and, if I DIDN'T want to pay by bank transfer, I could pay COD. So, they're cool. Also? LIVE customer support, via chat at certain times of day, super friendly folks. LINKY!
I WISH they were a shroomery sponsor.
Anyway...

Hey, the thing is, I am in Europe and the Hawkseye doesn't ship here AFAIK. Also? I cannot send a "Money order" as we don't have those here like in the U.S. and sending cash? LOL! Nah
I would have LOVED to order from there though, the spores anyway.
If I were you, I would just stick with them anyway, if you're in the U.S. If you're not, then give them a try.
I will be doing my first AFTER I come back from a visit to see some friends, so in 3 weeks.
I will not have time before I leave on the 29th to do anything

you can also try any baking store. Tell them that you wnat to make your own rye bread from scratch.
You can also try feed stores like co-op. It took me a while before i could find rye so i used wheat grain. works like rye and is cheaper. The smell of rye is nicer in the pc though.

You can buy Rye at Feed Stores and Grainges for dirt cheap.
55 pound bags for $10.99
There is several different types of Rye.
Winter Rye Fall Rye Spring Rye
I have never seen any Summer Rye..either there isn't any...or I just haven't run across any yet.
Be sure and ask to look at it...open up the bag and look at it. not all Rye is the same quality.
You want healthy full looking rye...not skinny and sickly looking rye.
I went looking last week at a new place that I stumbled upon...and saw some pretty shitty looking rye. The guy looked at me funny when I said his rye looked like crap. He asked what I was using it for...I told him it was for growing gourmet mushrooms.
good luck!~
