So I was laying here stoned thinking man I want another water bed... Then BLAMMO I thought of the perfect thing to heat fuit and inc chambers a water bed heater... they are cheaper then reptile cage heaters better then heating pads cause they are ment to have heavy things ontop of them and they are bigger then most they also have a seprate temp probe that you could put in the chamber... I may not be the first to come up with that but!!!!! I havent seen anyone offer that advice yet... so hope it helps someone next time I make mushies I will try it out I have no doubt that it will be great....

A heating blanket works well too...I dont know fi they work the same as water bed heaters, but heated blankets you can rip apart and there are wires through the blanket that you can pull off and hang all over a large incubator (like a fridge or closet or metal filing cabnent or something).

That sounds like an accident waiting to happen bro!~
I wouldn't be messing with a heating blanket.

Tell it to agar and the others who use them
Personally, I just have a whole closet with a dehydrator in it, on a 30 minute increment timer, set so that it maintains 80-84 in the closet, then I stack jars.

Water bed heaters are supposed have a body of water on top of them, otherwise they can melt themselves. Be very careful with this. Also, they aren't really water proof so don't go dunking them.

Hey RK, ya might want to rethink your stance on electric blankets. The whole blanket isnt for shit. But the controls & internal wiring are great for heating a space.
The wiring from inside an electric blanket has to be UL approved. It is also safe to run through a wash machine (on gentle cycle). So - they will withstand HIGH HUMIDITY. There is about 60 foot of heating cord, so it is suitable to heat a large space (Martha, closet or dead upright fridge / freezer).
The new models have very accurate digital dial contols & about 8 or 10 foot long extension cords to attach to the heating wires.
You can find BRAND NEW contols & wiring (alone - w/o blanket material) at big craft & fabric stores for about $25. Or, a used electric blanket & controls at thrift stores for about $5.
You can also modify one with an inexpensive honeywell thermostat, so you can set it & forget it (after trial run testing - of course).
My foaf used one all winter - no fuss - no muss - no problems.

what you says makes sense agar, but, i'm not coming home to burned up ass house.. tearing electric blankets up doesn't sound that safe, but then again, i've never tried it...

LOL...... would you SLEEP under an electric blanket? Would you use a heating pad (same thing, just a lot smaller)?
So long as they are wired properly, they are no more fire hazard than leaving your TV on.
But, to each his own & whatever works. I would not use a 20 year old beat up raggy electric blanket. As, they do not have built in fail safes. The newer ones do. If for any reason, it overheats, tiny diodes shut it OFF.

I gotta go with agar on this one. My pops, being an electrician, said this about the elec. blanket...
He did say he wouldn't put it in actual water or anything obvious like that.

Are most electric blankets heated by a wire doubled back and forth like that through the interior? I mean, if I were to get a cheap new electric blanket, could I be pretty sure I'd be able to tear it open and have a wire like that to work with? Thanks.

No I wouldn't.
There are a hell of alot of fires caused by electric blankets here in my area.
And I don't trust heating pads either.
