Multiple crops

I've just begun a decent size shroom operation, basically this is my first time. Talking to one of my friends, he said that it is possible to get several batches out of one fruiting, thus tripling the quantity out of one cake. Could somebody please explain this more indepth?

Afther the initial fruits are picked clean off the cake you can expect to see a new flush withing the following seven days. Precautions to insure a healthy, second flush would be to cold shock for six hours, give increased amounts of light and possible dunk the cakes in order to keep them hydrated.
