If you, try to drown your ego, you may find that, that is what makes your ego float.
    #3930988 - 03/17/05 03:00 PM (19 years, 1 month ago)

If I say to you, this is my reality, it could be my ego, holding it for true, and it would be egoistic to try to push my reality on to yours, for you to see, understand and replace as your new reality.

?Put aside? the ego, and do it personal.

If me say to you, this is my reality, it could be my personality, a reflection of a (possible) reality, and it would be personal to me, as you reflect upon your own personality...

Any personality at all is a manifestation of ego. To be without ego is like being without your frontal lobes. Ego loss=self importance and ego stroking.

A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

The personality can be characterized by a distinct lack of ego.

The ego is the way you outwardly deal with the world. The face you wear reflects it. To think it can be lost is an illusion.

I disagree. Personality is not a manifestation of the ego; our personality, the whole of our being, exists before any mechanism categorizes it, labels it, and "knows" it. Action exists without the need for identity, thoughts exist without the need for identity, decisions are made without the need for identity. Your identity exists naturally, prior to a conceptual understanding of what that identity is. Not having a voice in your mind that defines who you are is not the same as not having an identity at all.

Essentially, a voice that says "I am that" is not necessary as one is already existing in a state of being that. That is, a sense of self only seperates us from ourself. :smirk:

Damn, not another thread about 'ego'. Cant we all agree that it is pointless to use a word when it means something completely different to each individual reading it?

Are you guys suggesting that society would be better without the ego, a world where I and ME are unheard of. I read this novel Anthem by Ayn Rand about 8 years ago, and I remember it to this day, it had a very message about the ego.

Ego defines individuality, if we lived in a world without 'Ego' it would clearly indicate the downfall of humanity

Maybe perhaps instead of using the term 'ego' we could clearly explain what we mean in greater detail, so as to leave no confusion as to what we mean. Then perhaps this thread might get somewhere?

How can you possibly say whether or not a thought that occured in my mind was egotistical?

Please first explain what you mean by egotistical, then explain how it can be possible for you to read my mind.
