Foil-is it really necessary?
    #3933097 - 03/17/05 10:03 PM (19 years, 16 days ago)

A few buddies told me I should be wrapping up my rye jars with foil during incubation to keep out the light. Is this really necessary? I have a few dozen jars almost done incubating right now and they were exposed to ambient light in the room..they seem to be doing just fine. I think they're wrong but just wanted to make sure I'm not making yet another mistake. Thanks guys.

no, not really *necessary*. they shouldnt be exposed to light though and if they're getting any light then they'll get screwed up once the jar colonizes more.

So my casings are headed for trouble? What I've done is covered up a metal shelf unit with transparent plastic sheeting to keep out contams. I cut a door of sorts at the front so I can get to my jars. This seemed like the best way to store my jars and keep them contam free. I should have bought opaque ground sheets.

Your verm. layer should have been enough :lol:

Light = pinning
To keep it easy and simple, Light tells the Mycelium(whitestuff) to begin growing mushies....

Just put your jars in a Dark spot till they're done

Thanks guys, I'll cover up the shelves with a sheet that won't let light through until I'm ready to case.
