Mini fungi

Hi,
I have several PF Cakes (Eq strain) that I birthed one week ago. About two days after birthing most of the cakes started growing these small one inch mycelium spikes that quickly grew into miniature mushrooms. They are now about three inches in size and their veil looks broken. The stems are white and the caps are light black instead of orange. A week after birthing little normal pinheads started to grow on the same cakes and they are doing fine. My question is are these other fast growing mini mushrooms safe? Why would they grow like that? It looks like they stopped growing and their stems are getting darker in color.
I'd post a pic if I had a camera but I drew a very unartistic picture instead. On the left is the normal mushrooms that formed a week after birth. On the right is what I'm confused about. Thanks for any info.

You mean shit literally? There isn't any. These are growing very close to the top next to a layer of vermiculite (double end casing).

sounds like you might have some small mushrooms that are ready to be picked. the black on the caps could be spores....does the black rub off?
I'd have to see a picture...to tell what is really going on.
small mushrooms that stop growing and that turn black are called aborts...they stop growing and need to be picked.

I think KulTiVater might be right. I looked closer on the side of the cakes under where the mini shrooms are growing and the mycelium now has a very light brown tinge. The rest of the mycelium on the cakes are nice white with no strange mini shrooms.
They don't look like aborts, but actual large sized mushrooms only in a mini form. The stems are about the diameter of spaghetti and about 3 to 4 inches in length.
I guess I'm going to toss these
Thanks.

My EQ's did the exact same thing. Little clumps of mycellium that produced little baby mushrooms, only difference is my stipes turned blue. I just harvested these and waited on the big one's to show up, which they did. My EQ's are flushing much slower than my other strains. I have been taking a mushroom or two off each cake for a week or so now. Good Luck.Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony. Hippie Chick

c02 buildup causes over elongated stems and underdeveloped caps. i adjusted my setup to counteract c02 buildup and boom no more mini shrooms. they arent aborts as the veils have torn.. if yours looked like this than that sucks for you

i should say over elongated stems and underdeveloped caps can be caused by co2 buildup. there are lots of different possible causes for a problem

if you fan out the terrarium 3-4 times a day that should eliminate disastrous amounts of co2. co2 does sink though so the holes you have in the top would not help the co2 drain out.
