HELP!!! I have some tannish yellow part growing with my mycelium in jars i innoculated 11 days ago. This is my first batch of shrooms and i posted a question about whether or not this could be contamination. I got some advice to check the smell of the jars but when i tried to i couldn't open the jars. I'm using pf tek with top layer of vermiculite and I don't want to disturb this layer too much. And i DID screw the rubberized part of the lid facing UP. Any suggestions?? should I just leave them alone until birthday or what??

9 out of 10 it's waste. This is supposed to happen. It could be cont., but I doubt it very much! What you might want to do is loosen the lids a little to allow some gas exchange. The mycl. will produce a yellow to tan color on top, and sometimes this can confuse the newbie. No worrie's though...as the mycl. grows it has to "take a shit/piss" (sorry lack of better words).
Anyway this is natural. As always though...make sure you keep an eye on it....just in case.
