lacking prop. drainage for bulk

so it's a rubbermaid tub w grain spawned to a couple layers of poo and straw. after completing this, i sat down and read a post about people neglecting to make concessions for draining in their bulk casings. this was very informative, but just a little bit too late to save me. my problem: it's about half way through it's spawn run, and has water collecting at the top. aside from putting a towel or vaseline on the lid, what can i do to help alleviate my moisture problem? and are there any sterility concerns w/ either the petroleum or a towel?

And mutants..
Is vaoline a petrolium product? I've heard that prevents build up. In my bulks though, theres always a little build up...never a problem...I also dont put any sort of drainage thing in.

You mean when sealing lids (as I believe he is talking about), or do you mean if it's applied to actual mycelium (for whatever reason)?

Applied to lids...its like that RainX stuff for your windshield..prevents water build up on plastic sides/ceilings of tubs or whatever.
Using any petrolium based products around (not even on)your mushrooms though, will cause problems (vapors from the products).

Unlike most petroleum products, petroleum jelly (Vaseline) is an inert substance. You can eat it. All it will do is make your poo goo. (I had a friend who was prescribed a teaspoon a day to ease hemorrhoids) I doubt you'd have any vapor problems off Vaseline in a container.

Don't worry about draining bulk anything, the excess moisture is not going to cause any issues. I intentionally oversaturate bulk mixtures and let them go as is. That extra moisture will definitely pay off in the first flush or so. If you have yellow pools of meta waste laying on the surface, I'd definitely mop those up with a piece of paper towel. Otherwise, let it be.
Unlike grain substrates where the extra moisture can easily send you on a destructive path of contams, mycelium won't be affected in a bulk grow by the same conditions.
When it comes to bulk substrates, I'll take too much water over not enough water, any day!
