overlay while waiting for pins?
    #3930397 - 03/17/05 02:31 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

okay, so i've got this casing. I had it in the incubator for like 3 days before putting in my fruiting chamber 3 days ago, patching any big spots that came up. When I put it in fruiting conditions, the casing was perfect! Not colonized, myc showing in the cracks, all that good stuff.

Since I've had it in the fruiter though, quite a bit of myc has been comming to the surface. This myc is real stringy and ropey (hyphal knots I think), and looks like it's about to turn into pins, but I'm not sure (my first grow).

Other myc though, is still fluffy, but isn't fuzzing over the surface, instead it's like fuzzing UNDER the surface, pushing up a lump which has a bunch of casing particles over it.

So my Q is, am I in danger of overlay, should I patch? Or is this about to pin and should I leave it alone? I've been avoiding overlay so well, I'd hate to get it now!

thanx, you guys rock!

Air exchange and High humidity!

Even if the conditions are optimal, it still depends on the strain substrain.

Good luck!

so I shouldn't worry about patching at this point and just try to keep the humidity and air exchange up?

I can wait for pins, I'm pretty patient...

When fruited this casing had NO myc showing. Then it grew over 8 days (time wll vary) or so to look like this:

IMO, this is perfect, what a casing should look like RIGHT before it pins.

Two days later:

And a few more days:

I believe those are shadows or something wierd with the camera...The flash only works sometimes, at different amounts...and sometimes the camera just shuts off or takes like half a pic and then waits extra long for the shudder to close so I get blurs and shit. Doesnt work unless its plugged in and it takes anywhere from 2-10 pictures to get a picture that finishes saving before it turns off. Its like it dies, but its plugged into the wall.

It got left in a car for a year, through humidity and temps from -10 to 95 and hasnt worked right since I found it burried under the seat, like a year ago. Still does the job though...

I also may have misted those with to much peroxide..that casing was one of my early ones when I still had the yellow sprayer and not the green (heavier mist) and I wasnt as carfull about adding adding peroxide or water delivery...still though..from another picture of that casing, I dont see any blue. Its pre pinning though so maybe before pinning I used a bit to much h202? I did that a couple of times back then...

ah ha... I see. So there is nothing wrong with my casing. Thanks for those pics, they help a lot!

I hope I get a pinset that beautiful! If I can get my hands on a digital camera by the time my casing fruits then I'll post a bunch of pics on here.
