Growing without a syringe?

Is it possible to get the spore prints safely into a jar with the vermiculate and brown rice without using a syringe?

All the ways I can think of would require a glovebox or flowhood..Why not just buy a syringe?

...or the low dollar sterile tek. How would you get past the dry vermiculite layer? Would you put it in after you have scraped the spores into the jar?

...um, so how?
Not all of us live in places where spore syringes can be purchased domestically...getting a print through the mail is much safer than a syringe. And pharmacists give me dirty enough looks when I buy cough syrup, leave alone a rig...
Maybe scraping some of the print into the pre-sterilised jar (using a sterile knife) while working oven-tek style, then sprinkling on the verm?

Most vendors ship around the world, New Zealand shouldn't be any different.

Vendors aren't the problem...NZ customs/quarantine is. They are fairly vigilant, and even spores are of dubious legality here -- a spore-syringe could be enough to land someone in serious trouble. It establishes intent and a syringe is, after all, drug parephenalia.
I could probably get one from the local IV Union...but if theres anyway to avoid that (I think you have to give them a valid name and address, fill out what you use and how often, all sorts of demeaning shit) then I'd obviously prefer it...

Make sure the spores are rehydrated first too if you're scraping them from a print.

I'm a complete newbie but I can say that I have some rye colonized just from scraping spores from the print into the jar. You have to be very careful though. I would recommend you build a glove box to try this. I used a laminar flow hood but I am very lucky to have access to such a thing. I wouldn't worry too much about hydrating the spores. If there is enough moisture in your grain for the mycelia to grow there is probably enough for spores to germinate. At least it worked that well for me. And that I have done only once so take it with a grain of salt.
Swing the groove 'round here, so I can reach it -a.d.

If you are very careful you will have no problems. Use your head and things will go just fine. Good luck.

How do you rehydrate spore prints? I thought you rehydrated spores by turning a spore print into (several) spore syringes, and letting the spore syringe sit for a day or two.
Is this correct?

Yes.
BUT, if you transfer spores on agar, they will rehydrate themselves, it just takes a few days longer.
