Ugh...I'm about tired of dealing with these Orissas.
    #3920948 - 03/15/05 02:34 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

So far I'm having a hard time getting a good flush from this strain. I've had great success from other strains in the same conditions. I can only get them to pop up a few at a time in random spots and no bigger than usual mushies that this strain is know for. I've got a couple of different casings with different subtrates, subtrate depths, and casing depths, all with the same results. Are other people running into the same thing with these?

Nope! They are my favourite!

Grow them on straw, or better straw/horsedung.

Not the best pinset, my fault, I fruited them too late. But a good yield. 2 ounce dry from less then 1 square foot. In the first flush.

Hmmm. I wish I could figure out what's going on. Do things usually pick up a great deal after the first flush?

Substrate and substrate moisture content are most likely your biggest issues here, not the strain itself.

Definitely need more details though.

Subtrates are:
1)WBS 1" deep cased w/ coir/verm 1/2" deep
2)WBS 3" deep cased w/ coir/verm 1"
3)WBS spawned to about 90/10 horse poo/verm 3" deep. Same casing layer as above.
Fruiting temp is about 76deg. Humidity is kinda high at about 95-99%. I'm gonna try and bring that down a bit today. Light is natural indirect sunlight at mid latitudes. Air exchage is constant using 60 gallon air pump and fanning. Any ideas? Anything I missed?

Fruiting on straight WBS has produced pretty weak fruits for me in the past. Casing layer is much too thick on #2.

If you're getting the same weak results on the three different setups you mentioned above, I'd have to say the problem lies in your casing technique, but that's just a guess.

uh huh...using straight WBS isn't ideal.

and the casing layers were too thick.

and the depth of the substrate...I like 4" to 6" of substrate at least.

I've never had any problems with the Orrisa's either.

One of my favorite strains.

Think it is water content as Diver mentioned.

Where did you get the poo from? Did it colonize the poo well?

My subst. was about 3-3,5 inch deep. How big where your mushrooms?

I made a growlog actually, here: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/3662015/an/0/page/2

The mushies I've gotten so far haven't been bigger than about 1&1/2"
to 2". They've been pretty sporadic in there size also. I guess I'll just keep playing around with it and see what happens. The poo colonized easy enough. I'm gonna start dunking them soon and try to get a more even flush. We'll see I guess.

Your casing layer should be around a half or quarter of your substrate. that seems to work the best from my experience. and reduce your humidly furing fruiting periods

I dont think that a thicker casing layer causes such small mushrooms

Hmmmm. I just finished up 8 trays of poocompost/straw/coir yesterday with the same strain you're working with. I hope I have a different experience. Most of the trays are on the average of 3" thick, with 2 exceptions being about 5" thick.

Cased a 4 liter pot today about 4 inch of straw/horsepoo. The myc was so rhizo fast growing, almost jumping out of the container!

That's great news man! Hope it works out for ya. Hopefully these casings will colonize pretty quick too. I'm ready for some damn mushrooms man! This strain's suppost to yield some rather large shrooms. We'll see.

Ive had good succes with OI. Actually I have birthed my OI_casing after 2 flushes. Its now flushing as a giant cake in my PMP. Flush 5, it keeps on going!

The rye was 100% after 7 days, the spawnrun was about the same, also 6-7 days. Last time the casing was ready after 2-3 days. So probably will fruit it this weekend.

I like this strain, beautifull and big mushrooms.

I got my poo from some people that give carriage rides. They are fed hay and grains. I'm thinking that maybe b/c of the ferret story, what I'm getting right now were some surviving pins that were coming up from under the new casing layer. I noticed a bunch of new pin clusters this morning. I'm hoping good things are on their way.
