Agar preparation

SWIM's always been growing liquid mycelium in distilled water/Glucose with good results... Do you think that adding only glucose to some agar would make a suitable growth medium? Just asking if anyone used straight glucose, SWIM's gonna give it a try tomorow... He'll post results if need be... see ya!

Suitable as in balanced? No.
Can mycelium grow for a certain amount of time on glucosis alone? Yes.
Is it good? No.

Thanx for the reply, so I guess it's not a good option for obtaining healthy mycelium, swim was thinking of just using this to germinate some spores to be sure of their vitality, and then transfer to a more suitable medium...

You have to add some potato water, and you have PD agar already which IS a suitable agar.

Buy 1 kg of potatoes.
Take one medium sized potato(=150g) and slice it as thin as possible
Simmer with 500 ml water on small flame for 30 minutes
Strain and keep the potato water and discard the potatoes

Throw them suckas in a frying pan with bacon and onions and spice to taste. Or in the oven on a pan covered in bacon and cheese. Mmmmmm.
