Hey im new to mushroom hunting, i know a little about what im looking for but just that the mushrooms bruise blue. I was thinking about going into cow fields and getting the ones that grow on cow shit. I live in northern indiana, just wondering if you have any suggestions or pics i can look at to know what to pick and what not to pick. thanks.

by the way some poisonous mushrooms bruise blue too, dont always use that as an indication. anytime you find a mushroom you think may be active, bring it here and we will make sure you have a safe and sound journey. dont want anyone dying or going through poisoning.

The blue staining poisonous mushrooms are boletus spp. which have porous bottoms untder the caps and do not have gills liekl magic shrooms do. So they can be immediately illiminated from a shroom hunt.

I also doubt that you would fine any magic shrooms inmanure in Indiana.

Good luck
mj

^^^Yep.

Indiana is too far north to find dung dwelling active psilocybes. If you are really dedicated, and I mean willing to hunt for years before making your first find, then you should look for Pan subbs or active Gyms. If you're dedicated, then you will do your research to find out what I'm talking about. If you are seeking a quicker rout to the mushroom experience you may wish to consider cultivating them. The Shroomery is the for-most resource for cultivation of psychedelic fungi in the universe.

"The blue staining poisonous mushrooms are boletus spp. which have porous bottoms untder the caps and do not have gills liekl magic shrooms do." This is true, but most amateur hunters (notice the thread name), dont know this, and any kind of poisoning is still bad. Thanks for that addition anyways, I was too lazy to add that(you get dedication credit).

Oh yes, and

Yes there are such ways!
cultivation is the easiest, and most profitable (if thats your thing), but i can tell you from experience that it is well worth the time and effort it takes to expand your horizons of mycology and hunt the forest for shrooms, the most exiting and endulging hobby (besides flying) that i now partake in (but i have found only 3 bundles of Gym. spectabilis in all that time).

"The blue staining poisonous mushrooms are boletus spp. which have porous bottoms untder the caps and do not have gills liekl magic shrooms do."

I've noticed that it is not pointed out to many new hunters that there are also gilled mushrooms such as Lactarius Indigo that stain blue also. Actually more like bleeding blue.
PS: Hi all, just registered after a year of lurking. Love to hunt but in a land of few actives. But I will make up for it in a month or two with my Morel finds.
