Will this work and be sufficient? Drying chamber with PICS!
    #3917106 - 03/14/05 06:17 PM (12 years, 17 days ago)

I just picked my first shroom. I put it into this container with the bottom filled with DAM-RID. Will this method dry my shrooms correctly? Should I let it sit out for a couple days first? Our home has high humidity. Thank for the help and suggestions.

You can put your shrooms in front of a fan for a day or two and then put them in the desiccant.. works quickly

If you don't have a whole lot, I find that the back of the television works good.
I got a flatscreen monitor, so, I can't use that.
Electrical components put out very dry, warm air. * Watch the heat (not too warm)

Yes, you may want to find some finer mesh screen to put your shrooms on. I started with that size, and the smaller shrooms will fall through as they dry. I fan dry mine now.Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony. :heart:Hippie Chick :mushroom2:

Get a bundle of 1/2" welded mesh next time you're at Home Depot, etc. You'll find tons of uses for it in this hobby. Can be cut to size also.

It looks good and will work as is to a point. Here's a few suggestions though:

Unless you're harvesting enough mushrooms to fill a container of that size, go with a smaller container. I used a 2&1/2 gallon paint bucket and found that it could dry several ounces at a time (in layers) rather quickly.

Buy some metal window screen (if you can find it anymore. I actually took some from an old window screen, and had the frame rescreened in fabric). Cut it to the size of your container. Get enough for several layers. Get some 2x2 wood and cut 3"-4" lengths off of it. Use these as supports to keep the screens seperated. Instead of putting your damp rid on the bottom of the container, put it on the first layer of screen. This is so that it's not sitting in any water. It will work longer and better this way.

Consider putting a fan in the box to move air around. This significantly speeds up the drying process.

For the first layer of screening you can use 1/4" wire mesh covered with a towel and followed with a layer of damprip on top of the towel. Then you can also use 1/4" wire mesh for your 2nd layer of screening and you won't have to use metal window screen at all. Just keep your first layer of screening suspended from the bottom and your second layer of screening suspended from the first layer of screening. Plus a good 24 hour fanning before placing in desicant chamber helps in the drying process.

Sorry for my crappy drawing. lol

You dont have to be all complicated. Simply putt'm in your computer and leave it on for say 12 hrs or so. Garenteed cracker dry.
