PF Tek Cake - 2nd Flush - Case?
    #3915515 - 03/14/05 10:13 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Hi,

I had 6 PF Tek Cakes (EQ strain). Five started showing small traces of green mold so I tossed them. The other one fruited nice and I'm about to harvest. My question is, after dunking this cake and instead of fruiting it for a second flush as a cake, can I crumble the cake and case it or is it too late because it already fruited once as a cake and not worth the try?

Also, as a side question.. When putting a casing tray in a fruiting chamber, can I just use another tray with a layer of wet perlite sitting next to the casing tray for humidity instead of layering the entire bottom of the fruiting chamber with perlite? This seems it would be easier to control and clean.

Thanks for any advice.

It would work but it wouldn't be optimal for you at this point. This is a game of mycelium youth + vigor, breaking it down only to have to recover for a casing after it's already flushed in cake form will just retard growth.

You can use a seperate tray of perlite, but it won't put out as much humidity as if the entire floor of your fruiting tub was covered.

Good luck

Okay thanks Diver. I'll just do the second flush as a cake and start fresh with a casing.
