1000bulbs is too cheap for some things, therefor you will get crappy stuff, they have some things that are OK, but i would start with a small order from them to see how they are before buying a H.I.D. system from them. when things are cheap, they are cheap, especially in lighting and electronic systems.
and today don't let 1000bulbs confuse you those ballast boxes are what you put your electronic hardware in, so if you are build your own light( WHICH ONLY THE ELECTRONICALLY MINDED SHOULD ATTEMPT) you would need one, but since you said your going to buy one from alt g. it will come prewired and assembled for you.
alt garden is the best store, great people, and impeccable customer service. can't say enough.
if you call them you can ask what they recommend for your size area, or we could tell you.
i personally would buy a P.L. lighting system 400 watt HPS with a air cooled reflector, and a hortilux bulb. i know, it's a lot of money, however, the reward with compensate you much past your initial monetary investment. and even you don't think you will use an air cooled hood, you will want one after you see how much heat those bulb generate, especially in a closed space. i have used one for years, and the ballast still works fine and it hasn't gotten any louder, they buzz/humm like crazy. this light is big enough for a serious grower, but not too big to attract attention or cost too too much in power drainage. also, kinda would depend on what you are using it for.

honestly, i don't buy HID lights off the net... but I've had a 400w HPS and was EXTREMELY pleased with it... I also recommend the air-cooled hood, because they put out an extreme amount of heat.

i can only recommend alt gardens cause i've ordered from them for years, and i am very happy with them. they are a brew store too! and i don't have an air cooled hood but i wish i did, it would have been worth the extra loot, i will for sure get cooled hoods from now on.

thanks man. i actually decided to get a sunsystem light second hand from someone. i'm not worried about the wiring and such b/c in my younger days i wired a 70w hps that i stole from my school. yeah, it was sketchy but no fire erupted and it went on for months. still, sketch. i don't know what i was thinking.
