Looks like an Azurescens. They tend to exhibit that trait more strongly than most.

i think it was the way the agar was poured, and the way it setup and cooled.

They are also caused by agar concentration, and specific media formulas. That won't occur in liquid medium. Chaning this one variable will change the bodys morphology. If the culture is transefed to a liquid or a medium with very. little agar the zonataions may change. The normal force, the gravitaional force, the frictional force between the medium and the negative electicral charge of the cells. the atomopheric pressure, the temperature changing it. grow fast, grow slow, but why up for air and than flat(zones) getting all the nutients. The mycleiums weight.

It seems that the grass is greener and thicker in the ring. Why is that?

as the myc radiates outward, and does its saprobic thing to get nutrients, it is also breaking down molecules that make nutrients available to the plant life, essentially natural fertalization.
that probably is a similar reason for the rings on the agar. as the sample you have radiated outward consuming nutrients, zones of low differentiation of nutrients form just outside the ranage of the myc. once the myc hit those zones its growth was effected as if being on very low nutrient substrate. then it derived nutrients for growth from other parts of the myc by movement of cytoplasm to the growth areas, and hit more nutrient rich agar which is consumed and started the cycle over and over again. if you put a sample of the myc in the lighter rings and a sample of the whiter stronger looking myc on a slide and slapped it under a microscope, you would probably see the darker myc is less branched, and contains more instances of dead myc ends, as the myc closed off areas to preserve nutrients, and vital areas, until it was supplied with, or found more nutrients. if you supplied it with more nutrients before its growth reached the low nutrient zones, the growth would be more even and the ring probably would not appear.
that would be my guess for the concentric rings on the agar dish. it doesn't happen in liquid medium, because the nutrient concentration is more fluid and maintains equilibrium as the myc consumes the nutrients in solution.
