I'm new here,, but so far I have seen about 15 1pt. jars colonized with no contam's without using tape (boiled for 1 hr., brf/verm). My next move is to get some filter disks. My foaf keeps jars in a cardboard box though.

I never tape. I innocculated 6 1/2 pint pf style jars with P.R. cubensis from sporeworks. No pressure cooker either, just boiled the jars, and I got 100% vitality (no contams). I was prolly lucky but holes taped or not doesnt really matter. If your clean making the jars, innocculating them, and then put them in a clean place, they will do fine.

not only does my neighbor's cat not tape her lids, since cats have dexterity issues with hammer and nail, she skips the holes altogether.

ive witnessed the cat innoculating with syringe, and she just takes the lid off in a clean place, and the time it takes to innoculate doesn't seem to be a problem.

next time i'm tripping and can communicate with her by telepathy, i'll ask her about it, but i suspect that the holes are just as much a contam risk as taking the lid off.

I use a dry verm layer and have never taped the jars. Rarely get contams with BRF and verm sterilized by boiling.
