Mirro PC usage. Lost instruction book
    #3906347 - 03/12/05 11:40 AM (11 years, 11 months ago)

Hey guys. I just bought a 4.2 quart Mirro PC. Problem is I lost the instruction booklet and i have some rye grain soaking and it needs to be pc'ed by tonight. Does any have a Mirro PC and if they do can you tell me how to operate it. There are no settings on the PC so i think that the psi is determined by the heat of the stove. thanks

From their homepage:
How can I get an instruction manual for my Pressure Cooker?
Please contact us at 1-800-527-7727. Please have the model number or description of the cooker available when you call.
How to find your Mirro Pressure Cooker/Canner Model Number
Model numbers are found on the bottom of the pressure cooker/canner.

That said, a pressure cooker works like this:

1. Put the little circular metal thing into the cooker that raises your jars up off the bottom (if they rest on the bottom, they'll get too hot).
2. Put water in the cooker. I'd put at least 2 cups per half hour you plan to PC it.
3. Put your jars in the cooker.
4. Make sure the rubber seal is seated all the way around the lid.
5. Put the lid on the cooker. Mine goes on by putting the lid on with the top handle just a bit to the right of the bottom handle, then you seal it by bringing the two handles into alignment.
6. Put it on the burner, and turn the burner all the way up.
7. Put the little weight on the stem that sticks out the top of the lid.
8. When it starts hissing well, turn the burner down to simmer.
Caution: if it stops hissing, stop cooking NOW. You've used up the water in the bottom of the cooker & continuing will just be baking your jars.
9. When you're through, turn the burner off and let the cooker sit.
10. Do not open the cooker until the pressure has decreased enough for safety (both your safety and that of your jars). My cooker has a little button that pops up when the thing is under pressure and prevents you from opening the cooker. When the pressure drops, the button drops with an audible click, so I know I can go open. It usually takes about 20 minutes cooling time.

Here's a link to a couple of sites with some quick generic Pressure Cooker instructions (the second one looks best):

i actually do have the mirro 4.2 quart.. Put about an inch and a half of water at the bottom, they already come with a lil tray in the bottom. Put on your oven burner on high until you hear the jingle thing at the top rattling and than turn the heat down just until it stops rattling and making loud hissing sounds.. pressure cook for req'd time and turn off burner when done. allow to cool natural- seems with this 4.2 qt that when you hear it stop hissing its safe to open
