Noob water worry...
    #3905689 - 03/12/05 02:36 AM (19 years, 1 month ago)

I'm a complete beginer, so I appologize in advance if this is a silly question. Anyways, I inoculated 12 PF jars containing BRF,verm & water about 5 days ago. I've been incubating them in a glove box at about 80.5 F. No growth yet, though I'm completely aware it's still quite early for myc growth. However, this is where my concern lies: I created the substrate about 2 1/2 weeks before inoculation. I ordered the spores from a non-shroomery sponsor that is (unbeknownst to me at the time) well known for taking a while to send out their packages (I'll always use sponsors from now on). I read a post about people creating substrate a week before innoc, so I didn't think I had much to worry. During the 2 1/2 weeks, foil was kept banded on the jars. Good news: no contams! However, I can't help but wonder if water was lost during that time. Am I just being an over-protective father, or are my babies dehydrated? The substrates aren't so much "cakey" as they are "loose"... could that be a sign of not enough water? And, if so, is there anything I can possibly do, or do I just sit here in worrisome wonder and let time take its course? Thanks for your help, fellow shroomers!

Did you leave the inoculation holes uncovered during this waiting period? If it doesnt't show signs of growth after 12 days, I'd toss it.

But like Psychoslut said, time will tell.

Dont toss it unless you see a contamination.

Yeah, I know.  I'm still working on that little virtue they seem to call "patience." :smirk:  Anyways, I'll definately be giving everyone an update in a few weeks.  It makes me feel better that even if all is for naught, at least I'll be contributing to the community for anyone else who runs into this issue.

Hey everyone... I'm happy to report each of my jars are now about 95% colonized (minus one due to contams)!  A wonderful answer to my own question.  I'm so excited!
