ever seen this?
    #390298 - 09/10/01 02:12 PM (23 years, 9 months ago)

I saw some cubes that are doing pretty well, but they seem to be experiencing something that I have never seen... the caps have mycelium sprouting out of them. I have never seen this happen before. Has anyonelse seen this and can you give an explanation?

At first glance i thought i was looking at an underwater picture of a coral reef
Yeah this happens sometimes when the humidity is very high. You can wipe it off if you don't want it.
The mycelium climbing up the walls of your bin looks really cool.

Yeah, I always liked the way it looks as it creeps up the sides of a tub. Hell, I have seen them pin on the walls!! Thank you for your input Una.
This is the Puerto Rican strain. I'm not very impressed with it so far. It has very healthy mycelium and beautiful pins but is BY FAR the slowest strain of Cubes I have ever seen--I just hope they are as potent as people claim.

Just increase your casing layer depth in the future, and keep the humidity and CO2 up for only 48 hours. Start giving it fresh air immediatley after the 48 hours, and mist . The P. Ricans are animals, late flushes are monsters!!!! I like it but it is a tad bit slower than most. Yet to BIOASSAY though!! These things have an exceptional metabolic rate, I think they utilize nutrients a bit better than most spore races.
Mine grew at a Temp. range between 76-80 F. From germination to mature fruit body. First flush was in clusters tenaciously attached to colony, medium size. In retrospect it was actually the first two flushes. The third flush produced some giants. 7" stems, relatively thick, and three inch diameter caps. More singles than clusters in the later flush.
I did have to recase after initial harvest, dropped some spores on the casing layer and had huge holes from harvesting.
Had no overlay problems, with increased casing depth and quick introduction of fresh air( removal of CO2). Don't wait until you see the mycelium peeking through the casing, to initiate.

WOW!....i to thought i was looking at a pic. of a coral reef...really! Thats the wierdest pic. i've seen....lol...i don't mean anything by it...i like it :)
You have to get rid of that tub your growing in....or just paint it....that is if you plan on taking more pics.
