Casing water content

What's a good way to test how moist your casing is? Can I pick a little off the top and feel for moisture, or just by looking? Should there always be a little glisten to the top layer for moisture? How do you know if it's too wet?

check this thread out http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/3290155/an/0/page/0

there should be a little glisten to the top layer, i wouldnt stick your fingers on there pinching at it tho.

if its too wet it'll look kinda like a swamp.

i guess ur talking bout the casing "layer" ?

its moisture should be, from the beginning, adequate to squeezing some
drops out of the substrate but not being able to squeezre a soldif flow out of it.

meaning, when u got your casing mix read before sterilisation,
when u take a handfull and squeeze it - you get a few drops, thats it.

if its of concern to keep the already applied mix at proper moisture,
make it look moist but not wet,
you do not want to have any pools of water on it but yet, properly
saturated.

misting once a day does the job if carried out properly.

later removing parts of the layer would be unwise, because you could introduce another contamanination vector.
uh yeah
