Casing Fruiting Chamber
    #3902422 - 03/11/05 01:41 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

Hey everyone, I have two small casing's,two 1/2 pint cakes per casing, ready to go in a fruiting chamber but don't want to set up my Martha until my 16 quarts of WBS are ready. I was going to get a small rubbermaid to put the two smaller ones in and my question is should I still use perlite or just obtain my humidity levels by spraying. I know casings don't require near the humidity my cakes do and don't want to get them too much water. Thanks for your help. Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony. Hippie Chick  :mushroom2:

How longs it gonna be? I'd put a little perlite in there if itll be over a week and you've got it, but you wont need much. You dont really need any at all, misting will work fine..but yanno, if you want.

an occasional hand misting works fine for me since the vermiculite layer hold all the moisture they need

scatmanrav, thanks for the input. Yes, it will probably be a few weeks. I have plenty of perlite( a local nursery was moving to a new building a month back, had a huge sale, 80% off, and I bought them out of perlite and verm.) Got 10 quart bags of verm. for $.99. Thanks again.Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony. :heart:Hippie Chick :mushroom2:

what they said^^^ if youre going to put pearlite in there make sure its drained very well and dont put more than a 1/4 inch layer in the chamber. i made the mistake of putting in very hydrated pearlite @ about 1/2-3/4 inches in there and my casings grew HUGE mounds of mycellium over the casing layer. look at the one on the left... they both ended up growing huge mounds, but the one on the left is generally NOT what you want them to look like, the one on the right is more what you'll want to see.

high humidity is definately not cool for casings.
